Highlights of the job- We are hiring one (1) Full Time, Permanent Laboratory Lead Hand to join the Regina Team.
- The Laboratory Lead Hand is accountable for the coordination of the Laboratory Analysts and scheduling and assignment and is responsible for preventative maintenance, servicing and calibration of laboratory equipment and conducting special projects and other analytical related duties.
- As the Laboratory Lead Hand, you are accountable to the Manager, Technical & Quality Assurance, and operate within the context and prescribed limits established by the Manager.
- Scheduling; providing a higherlevel technical expertise; assigning tasks; assisting colleagues to resolve problems; monitoring tasks; coaching and providing feedback of task performance.
- Communicating with the Manager on task progress and work performance; making recommendations for improvements to the work; assisting in investigating and resolving problems; reporting accidents or safety concerns; making recommending to the manager on hiring, performance appraisal and performance issues;
- Assisting the Manager in ensuring that employees working in the laboratory adhere to all EPCOR policies and procedures including Ethics, Respectful Workplace, and Health, Safety and Environment.
- Exercising independent judgment to perform technical tasks; Solving problems in complex technological areas with limited direct supervision; Ensuring that resources and workload within the laboratory are properly coordinated.
- Providing input to the sampling and analysis plans and directions, and ensuring ongoing appropriate relationships with other positions.
- Ensuring the delivery of optimal results against appropriate performance metrics such as:
- Meeting various reporting and project deadlines and meeting yearly APfR targets.
- Ensuring prompt completion of maintenance work requested and ensuring assigned tasks are completed on time.
- Overseeing the daily assignments ensuring timely completion of analyses and workload.
- Coordinating sample reception and communicating sampling needs to various staff and clients.
- Coordinating various projects within EPCOR and with external customers. Preparing final reports by the project's deadline and reporting them to the Manager, Operations and other clients.
- Ensuring all work activities adhere to federal, provincial, municipal and EPCOR Safety guidelines, ISO/IEC 17025:2005 and ISO Ensuring compliance with the Quality Manual, including investigating and putting in place corrective actions as required. Conducting hazardous assessments and safety inspections and observations.
- Performing regular maintenance and/or arranging for the maintenance of laboratory equipment, instruments, building maintenance, building systems and plant On-Line analyzers.
- Providing timely and responsive service to various plant personnel and external clients, resolving complex issues and advanced concerns.
- You will possess the following qualifications, experience and behaviours:
- Completion of post-secondary (or degree) from a recognized educational institute in the field of chemistry, microbiology, biology or environmental or a subset of those.
- 5+ years' experience working in a water, wastewater and/or environmental /analytical laboratory
- Experience:
- In the use of HACH WMS or similar software.
- Proven capabilityusing SharePoint, word processing and spreadsheets.
- Proven solid understanding of sampling methodology and of the Wastewater treatment process.
- Ability to perform and interpret complex mathematical and statistical calculations.
- Ability to perform repetitive tasks and dexterity to manipulate apparatuses.
- Strong organizational skills to ensure completion of work in the appropriate timeframe.
