Operations Manager, Clinical Laboratory & Diagnostic Services

Position Description


Reporting to the Director, Clinical Laboratory and Diagnostic Services, the Operations Manager, Clinical Laboratory and Diagnostics Services will manage and oversee daily laboratory operations and laboratory information system workflows; customer service inquiries; operations of Point of Care Testing (POCT) and related middleware, diagnostic services (ECG, EEG, X-Ray); staff scheduling and assignments.

You will manage departmental human resources including recruitment, training, competency and/or performance management of your direct reports; and also work with indirect reports and provide feed-back on their performance to the Director, Clinical Laboratory and Diagnostic Services.

In addition, you will manage laboratory equipment, supply and reagent inventory as well as budget planning/monitoring. You will participate in quality management activities, including project-related work and preparation for accreditation visits.

As a leader in this department, you will promote and work in compliance with the Quality Management System of the Clinical Laboratory as set by AC Diagnostics, and with other regulatory bodies like Accreditation Canada, Health Canada, and the Occupational Health and Safety Act.

You will collaborate with the Quality Manager, Laboratory Director, and stakeholders, ensuring a healthy, safe work environment, promoting integrity, competence, responsibility, respect, and trust.


Qualifications


A graduate of an accredited General Medical Laboratory Technologist (MLT) program or equivalent education recognized by CSMLS (Canadian Society of Medical Laboratory Scientists).

Member in good standing with the College of Medical Laboratory Technologists of Ontario (CMLTO). Minimum Bachelor's degree relevant to the laboratory medicine. Member of the MLPAO (Medical Laboratory Professionals Association of Ontario) preferred. Additional training certificates relevant to the role (POCT, Quality Management System, Laboratory Information System) are assets.

Minimum 5 years of experience in technical lab procedures, troubleshooting and instrument maintenance.

Minimum 4 years of experience in supervisory roles, total quality management involving Accreditation Canada - Diagnostics regulatory requirements, assessment and response.

Sound knowledge of the Quality Management System, Point of Care Testing, Laboratory Information System, and occupational health and safety regulations.

The job requires expertise in clinical chemistry, hematology, advanced toxicology, and mass spectrometry tests.

You demonstrate commitment to safety of both patients and staff. Ability to work with people from diverse backgrounds and communities is essential. You have demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).

In addition, you possess excellent organizational, conflict resolution, negotiation, and relationship building skills, as well as the demonstrated ability to grow future leaders.

Finally, you have demonstrated interpersonal skills and have the ability to work effectively within a dynamic team environment. Bilingualism (French/English) and/or proficiency in a second language would be an asset.
