SUMMER STUDENT - MAINTENANCE WORKER 2024

Number of positions: 1

Hours/week: 30 hours per week

Wage:
$17.50 per hour
: The Student Maintenance Worker will be responsible for assisting Maintenance staff. Functioning as a student, the successful applicant will assist in performing repairs and upkeep in residential homes and in the administrative office. Duties will include assisting maintenance in household repairs, painting, plumbing, carpentry, dry wall, etc. The student will be accountable to the Manager of Properties & Facilities and support the Maintenance Team by adhering to Health and Safety regulations, and preserving a pleasant home environment when attending to maintenance tasks in homes. The summer student will work in a manner which effectively models and reinforces RYGIEL's established vision, mission, values, attitudes and standards of support.


QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Current Criminal Reference Check vulnerable sector
  • Currently a full time student in a relevant postsecondary education (University or Community College) and/or returning to full time school in the fall of 202
  • Meets the eligibility criteria to qualify for wage subsidy with the Canada Summer Jobs program for the 2024 year
  • Ongoing commitment to and participation in continuous learning
  • Relevant training/experience in maintenance duties, and/or an interest in maintenance support
  • Valid driver's license and availability of a reliable vehicle with appropriate insurance coverage, an asset.

  • Maintaining constructive, open, honest, twoway communication with the Maintenance team
  • Demonstrated oral and written English language proficiency appropriate to the language requirements of the position. Fluency in French is an asset.
  • Establishing and working according to appropriate work priorities reflecting all areas of responsibility and to carry out effective, ongoing selfmonitoring of job performance
Problem Solving/Decision Making

  • Systematically seeking alternative solutions to identify or anticipate problems, and to respond to emerging opportunities or needs
  • Making appropriate decisions regarding actions to be taken in consultation with other team members

  • Works within and nurtures a team environment as well as working independently
  • Contributes to a positive, nurturing and effective environment with the individuals being supported, the support staff and other team members
  • Organizes and completes tasks independently under the supervision of Maintenance workers and the Manager of Properties and Facilities
Availability


Available for various hours including weekends and willingness to be flexible and adjust working schedules according to the needs of the role.
