Description
The Operating Room is a highly technical, fast paced department.

The attendants function as an integral member of the team which includes nurses, surgeons, anesthetists, medical students, respiratory therapists, and nursing unit secretaries.


  • The duties of the Operating Room Attendant include:
  • portering patients
- assisting with transfer of conscious and unconscious patients
- assisting with positioning of patients for surgery
- assisting with room turnover between cases including; Washing furniture, OR bed, and monitoring equipment; handling linen; transporting soiled case carts to Central Processing, and dismantling in the decontamination area
- moving heavy, fragile equipment such as lasers and microscopes
- stocking service carts
- distributing linen, surgical masks, and scrub solutions

Essential Qualifications

  • Knowledge of a Safety Culture in a Health Care Setting in compliance with the OHSA
  • Ontario Secondary School Diploma from a recognized school in the Province of Ontario
  • Demonstrated oral and written communication skills in English
  • Demonstrated organizational ability and selfdirection
  • Excellent interpersonal, observation and assertiveness skills
  • Health and physical condition consistent in heavy lifting, pushing, pulling, bending, walking

Preferred Qualifications

  • Proficiency in French would be an asset
  • Experience as an Operating Room Attendant
  • Previous experience in a health care environment
  • Working knowledge of computer systems
  • Knowledge of hospital equipment

Immunization Requirements

  • Provide documentation you have received two doses of the Covid19 vaccine and a written commitment to follow any future Public Health recommendations and St. Joseph's Health Care London policies and processes related to Covid management in the workplace.
  • Provide vaccination records or proof of immunity against measles, mumps, rubella and varicella (chicken pox)
  • Provide documentation of the Tuberculosis skin testing
