Position Summary


This position will provide temporary care for newcomer children while their parents, or guardians, are accessing YMCA Immigrant Services language programs.

With the local Language site as the base, you will provide quality care for newcomer children and focus on delivering engaging, safe, and inclusive activities.


The child-minding staff will be responsible for:

  • Designing and delivering ageappropriate programming for newcomer children
  • Ensuring the safety of the children in the Centre
  • Maintaining the upkeep and cleanliness of the toys, equipment, and the Centre
  • Documenting activities daily and writing required reports
  • Providing information and support to parents daily
  • Ensuring attendance tracking daily

Qualifications & Competencies

  • ECE Level 1 or higher and/or 2 years of experience in a similar position
  • An understanding of and experience with crosscultural matters and how they relate to learning and integration for newcomers to Canada
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong time management and organizational skills
  • Demonstrated discretion and sound judgement in the handling of confidential information
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Strong child safety mindset
  • Be able to meet the physical demands of this job
  • Strong interpersonal skills
