SYNONYM is a growing bustling day & night neighbourhood café-resto-bar-bookshop that celebrates art, design & culture. Our culinary program features exciting vegetarian & plant-based items developed in our from-scratch kitchen. As an art & design space, presentation & quality of the culinary program is taken very seriously. We work with local partners where possible and have a low-footprint, low-intervention philosophy.

The Line Cook works under the leadership of the Kitchen Manager and is responsible for some prep and executing the menu with strict attention to recipes, plating, efficiency & cleanliness.

Responsibilities /

Work under the Kitchen Manager to prep & execute a vegetarian/plantbased menu
Prepare dishes consistently with strict attention to the recipe, presentation, wastage, cleanliness & efficiency
Tasting prepped items frequently & flagging inconsistencies/concerns immediately
Proactively present solutions, create & implement kitchen processes
Conduct opening/closing duties
Ensure that all food is handled and stored safely, in accordance to health and safety regulations
Maintain a super clean kitchen: top to bottom including dishwashing
Support FOH in food running, serving etc.
Participate in team status meetings
Other duties as assigned and of interest to you

Qualifications /

Passion for food and culinary excellence
Minimum 1 year culinary experience
Excited about vegetarian/vegan food
Food Safety Certificate
Must be legally able to work in Canada

Job Details /

Job Type: Parttime or fulltime available; up to 40 hours/week
Must be available evenings & weekends

- $14.25 starting + tips, with advancement opportunity based on experience

Job Types:
