    Position Summary
  • This position is responsible for monitoring and maintaining supplies for the Dental Assisting and Dental Hygiene programs and providing support and coverage for Lab Demonstrators. In addition, the position assists instructors in the performance of their duties by performing a wide variety of tasks including preparing/maintaining instructional materials and supplies, setting up classroom/lab/clinic demonstrations, overseeing students, and providing other general clerical support.
    Duties & Responsibilities
  • Oversees the inventory management system for the Dental Assisting and Dental Hygiene programs.
  • Monitors, maintains and places orders for program supplies and capital equipment.
  • Researches, prepares orders and receives supplies and capital orders to meet program needs in consultation with Department Leaders.
  • Coordinates with suppliers and VCC's Procurement Department to address product and order related inquiries.
  • Distributes equipment and supplies to students and instructors.
  • Ensures storage areas are consistently kept clean, organized, and safe.
  • Performs quality control of all products ensuring specifications meet established requirements.
  • Assists instructors as required in the operation of courses; prepares, sets up and assists with demonstrations and/or events; prepares instructional support material; assists students with lab projects.
  • Provides support and coverage for Laboratory Demonstrators Dental Assisting/Dental Hygiene as required.
  • Prepares and assists instructors as required with demonstrations and assist with daytoday operations, demonstrates use of equipment, maintains lab schedule, receives and returns lab equipment and supplies, supervises students, monitors activities and invigilates student examinations.
  • Ensures clinic premises and equipment are maintained in a clean and orderly fashion to ensure safety and hygiene standards are maintained.
  • Provides general dental reception duties.
  • Assists with practicum placements.
  • Performs other related duties as required.

Qualifications

Education and Experience

  • Grade 12 including Grade 12 English, Mathematics, and computer/keyboarding skills.
  • Completion of Certified Dental Assisting program with a current practicing license with British Columbia College of Oral Health Professionals and 2 years' related experience or an equivalent combination of training and/or experience may be substituted for the required qualifications.

Skills and Abilities

  • Demonstrated knowledge of inventory management, stock control and purchasing.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of program content and instructional material.
  • Effective interpersonal skills and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively as a member of a team.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective and professional working relationships with students, faculty, work associates and the public.
  • Strong English communication skills and the ability to relay information/instruction clearly and concisely.
  • Strong organization and time management skills and the ability to prioritize and manage several time sensitive issues at a time.
  • Knowledge of competencies and experience working with students in an educational setting.
  • Ability to supervise student activities and promote a positive and respectful environment.
  • Ability to demonstrate use and maintenance of all equipment.
  • Ability to organize supplies and equipment for clinic sessions, prepare and assist instructors with demonstrations and supervise and delegate student activities.
  • Current knowledge of infection control procedures.
  • Demonstrated ability to proactively and effectively problem solve issues.
  • Computer experience with proficiency in MS Office Suite.
  • Ability to lift up to 20 lbs.

Salary Range - Prorated based on FTE
