Description

The role of the pharmacy technician/assistant is to assist with the technical functions of dispensing prescriptions, maintain drug inventory, participate in the maintenance and operations of the pharmacy and provide optimal customer service.


Responsibilities and Duties

  • Practice within federal/provincial, regulatory/legal requirements, provincial Code of Ethics, Standards of Practice, and Policies, demonstrating professional integrity and acting to uphold a high level of professional standard of practice
  • Assist the pharmacist with prescription data entry, processing and packaging
  • Assess prescriptions for clarity, completeness, authenticity and legal requirements
  • Manage blister packaging preparation, billing and accuracy and enroll new patients as required
  • Promote customer loyalty and satisfaction through patientcentric pharmacy services
  • Compound nonsterile pharmaceutical products when necessary, including measuring correct quantities of drugs and other ingredients to fulfill prescriptions
  • Communicate with other health care professionals within the circle of care to provide optimal patient care
  • Contact insurance providers when required
  • Ensure accurate adjudication and billing of prescriptions
  • Provide timely and positive resolutions to patient needs and requests from other healthcare providers
  • Promote pharmacy campaigns, programs and services as appropriate
  • Refer patients to the pharmacist for consultation when required
  • Maintain pharmacy inventory
  • Manage medication deliveries
  • Ensure proper preparation, packaging, distribution and storage of all inventory
  • Manage methadone preparation in line with the applicable policies and guidelines
  • Actively contribute to a positive and productive work environment

  • Organizational skills and strong attention to detail to ensure medications are dispensed safely and appropriately

  • Strong personal computing skills and knowledge of Pharmacy systems
  • Selfdirected and able to work independently to meet strict deadlines
  • Ability to be a team player in a fastpaced environment
  • Able to operate equipment such as computers, scan guns, tablet counters, and cash registers
