    Position Title - Principal Mechanical Designer, Mining, Minerals & Metals division.

    Purpose:

    The principal mechanical designer supports and leads the layout design of mineral processing, metallurgical and hydrometallurgical processing facilities and materials handling facilities for studies and engineering projects.

    This will involve developing layouts and designs for the full range of projects from scoping study through to engineering contracts using information provided by the process department in the form of data sheets, process design basis and flowsheets. The ability to both understand and develop basic process information into both conceptual and final design plant layouts is paramount in achieving the job requirement. The role will be based in the Vancouver, British Columbia, office.

    Responsibilities:

  • Develop and prepare 3D and 2D mechanical layouts to meet study or project phase requirements.
  • Prepare design drawings and deliverables in accordance with project-specific design criteria and relevant regulations, codes, and standards.
  • Produce and contribute to other project deliverables such as design criteria, calculations and reports.
  • Manage and lead a team of layout designers against project scope, budget and schedule.
  • Manage and communicate project and quality expectations to maintain consistent design drafting standards across projects and teams.
  • Forecast, control and monitor budget hours and manpower loading against deliverables.
  • Provide input and support to proposal and estimates.
  • Facilitate and ensure interdisciplinary co-ordination when developing layouts or models.
  • Comply with and implement Worley corporate policies, standards and procedures.
  • Provide mentorship to less experienced team members.
  • Carry out design activities at customer sites as required, to meet individual project or customer needs.

    What you will bring

    Technical and Industry Experience:
  • Substantial relevant engineering and design experience with a minimum of typically 15 years' experience in the design and plant layout of mineral processing, materials handling facilities or hydrometallurgical ore processing facilities, preferably in gold, lithium, base metals such as copper, nickel, etc. and iron ore processing. This could include time in an engineering organization or in an operations environment.
  • Experience in the design and layout of mineral processing plants from run of mine ore receipt to final product storage and handling.
  • Understanding and knowledge in typical MMM process areas such as Crushing/Screening, Product Storage and Stockpiling, Material Handling, Mineral Processing.
  • Experienced in 3D modeling.
  • Proficient in AVEVA E3D and extracting drawings from the 3D model.
  • Proficient in other 3D CAD software from Bentley or Autodesk such as MicroStation, Navisworks, AutoCAD, and laser scanning software is a plus.
  • Excellent knowledge and efficient use of 2D AutoCAD is essential.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in the use MS Office software is essential.
  • Able to plan and prioritize own work to ensure that functional project requirements on scope, time and cost are met.
  • Must be able to work in a collaborative environment and good interpersonal and communication skills are essential.
  • Must have a proven safety record and be able to demonstrate an excellent safety-oriented mindset with understanding of the mechanisms and related engineering legislation to ensure safe, maintainable and operable designs.
  • Must have valid driving license.
    Education - Qualifications, Accreditation, Training:

    Required:
  • A degree in mechanical or mineral engineering is an asset.
    For candidates based in the province of British Columbia, the salary range on this role is: $103,250 to $155,014 CAD per year
