Description

The Family SOS Family Support Team supports parents in supporting their children by building upon their current parenting values and skills.

We are looking to hire an additional Family Support Worker (FT or PT) to provide attachment-based and trauma-informed parenting programs and manage a caseload of up to 15 clients, helping families to navigate their circumstances successfully.


OUTCOMES

1. Provide parenting support and build relationships with families within their communities

  • Provide guidance and leadership to families to improve family dynamics to a caseload of up to 15 clients
  • Work in collaboration with other professionals and organizations to provide comprehensive services to families
  • Support clients virtually, on site, and in their homes to increase effective communication, selfadvocacy skills, parenting confidence, emotional wellness and concrete parenting strategies
  • Develop comfortable and trusting relationships with clients

2. Co-facilitate Weekly Positive Parenting Groups (evening work may be required depending on group timing)

  • Encourage group participation and engagement
  • Create a safe space where all participants feel valued and heard
  • Keep the group on topic and on time
  • Facilitate weekly 1:1 meetings with group participants to provide additional insight and resources

3. Remain up to date on best practices and resources

Job Requirements:


  • A background in social services, with a focus on children and families
  • 12 years frontline experience in the provision of services
  • A clean CRC and Vulnerable Sector Search
  • First Aid/CPR Certification
  • Computer skills
  • Driver's License, travel required within the HRM at times

Additional Skills:


  • Excellent communication skills, both written and oral.

  • Allows the client to lead the service and be the experts of their own lives. The worker acts as a facilitator to encourage and support. This allows the client to gain selfconfidence and independence.
  • Trauma Informed approach
  • Understanding the widespread impacts of trauma and adverse childhood experiences. Incorporating safety, trust, collaboration, choice and empowerment when working with clients.
  • Attachment based approach
  • Working to support and strengthen relationships by reflecting on and meeting emotional needs.
  • Critical thinking and problem solving
  • Allows the worker to objectively examine and have a better understanding of the client's situation in order to effectively support them in reaching their goals.
  • Highest ethics and integrity ensuring that everyday practice adheres to professional values and standards set out by the agency

Job Types:
Full-time, Part-time

Part-time hours: 20-40 per week


Salary:
$20.00-$22.00 per hour
