About Potash


BHP's Jansen Potash Project located approximately 140 km east of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan is BHP's first and most advanced potash project.

Jansen will add diversity and a Canadian presence to BHP's global portfolio. Jansen's large resource endowment provides the opportunity to develop it in stages, with anticipated initial capacity of 4.35 Mtpa. The BHP Board has recently sanctioned Jansen Project (Stage 1), with a US $5.7 billion investment. The project is now entering the construction phase, with the first potash expected in 2027.


Purpose:


Reporting to the Manager, Business Planning, the Principal Sustainability will provide expertise and facilitation to deliver strategic sustainability opportunities across Potash.

They will drive an integrated implementation plan across Potash, with particular focus on decarbonization and healthy environment ambitions. Sustainability is core to our strategy and sits at the heart of everything we do.

It is integral to how we create social value - the enduring, mutual benefit we create for our people, planet, community, and shareholders.


About the Role:


In this role, you will:

  • Translate BHP Potash sustainability objectives, specifically decarbonisation and water stewardship, into strategies and plans, communicating, managing, and analyzing the implementation of those plans, and reporting back on their progress to deliver projects in line with the strategy and ambition
  • Collaborate in the development of scorecard and performance sustainability metrics for Potash
  • Collect and analyse information and facilitate idea generation and insight to ensure Potash meets our sustainability objectives. Defines value drivers and determines the boundaries of an opportunity to determine if it is worth further investment and study
  • Identify, implement, and evaluate the success of continuous improvement activities/initiatives to improve the sustainability strategies and plans.
  • Monitor the external environment and analyze the impact of changes on short, medium, and longterm plans to identify risks and opportunities. Explore and iteratively reassess bestfit sustainability solutions and applies appropriate change management
  • Establish routines with other functions, operations and regions to monitor health of social value commitments and continuously build BHP's reputation for stewards of sustainable mining.

Work Location:

Downtown, Saskatoon office. 40 hours per week. Hybrid working (flexible, shared workstations and a combination of office and work from home) is standard for BHP.


About You:


  • Postsecondary degree or diploma in a relevant discipline
  • Experience in sustainability, mining, or projects
  • Exceptional project management experience in a corporate environment with diverse stakeholders requiring complex solutions
  • Strong communication and influencing skills, with demonstrated experience in dealing with an array of stakeholders at various levels within the business
  • Deeply interested and passionate about sustainable development
  • Embraces an attitude as a selfstarter, with an eye for detail and agility to change
  • Demonstrates creative thinking, pursuing new and unique approaches to tackling challenges
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to express details and facts in a confident and articulate manner
  • Superior interpersonal skills to engage, influence and build solid working relationships with stakeholders across the organization
