ISL's Water and Environment Team:

provides expert environmental assessment, project permitting, construction monitoring and support for a wide variety of municipal, transportation, structural and land development projects within our local communities.

A Little About You:


Your cover letter must demonstrate:


  • Your approach to prioritizing simultaneously running projects for both internal and external clients
  • A focus on clientcentric results, while still meeting regulatory requirements.
  • Your experience developing new clients and work types for a company
  • Strategies you employ to ensure clear and consistent communication with the team
  • Your experience working independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team, particularly in a hybrid work world.
  • Your enjoyment of working in the outdoors, often in challenging conditions, while maintaining the ability to produce high quality inoffice deliverables

Your resume should show us:


  • A Bachelors in Biology or Environmental Science or a related field from an accredited institution with 3 to 5+ years' experience
  • Environmental construction monitoring experience (i.e., wildlife sweeps, turbidity monitoring, etc)
  • A high level of proficiency in report and proposal writing
  • Experience completing biophysical field assessment and associated reporting
  • Knowledge of regulatory approvals and environmental mitigation
  • Familiarity with environmental deliverable requirements for municipal and transportation projects
  • Registered or able to register as a Professional Biologist or a Biologist in Training, and/or BC equivalent

Bonus points for:


  • Wildlife assessment experience (preconstruction sweeps, regulatory approvals)
  • Alberta sensitive species inventory experience
  • Electrofishing Certificate (Crew Lead for extra Bonus)
  • Handson bioengineering and restoration experience
  • Potential Effects and Residual Analysis experience
  • Field experience completing weed surveys
  • Demonstrated punctuality, verbal and written communication skills, organized, strong independent work ethic, a willingness to learn and to build with the ISL team

A Little More About the Role:


Responsibilities:


Working out of Calgary, Edmonton or our Fernie office as part of a multi-disciplinary team of professional biologists, hydrogeologists, engineers and technologists, the applicant will utilize their knowledge and experience to deliver a variety of services for our public and private sector clients.

Travel will be required but is typically less than average in the environmental consulting industry.

A typical work week could include:

  • Performing a variety of environmental field assessments, preparing high quality field documentation, and conducting data analysis
  • Conducting biophysical fieldwork and technical writing under the direction of a senior team member (e.g., habitat assessments, fish salvages, vegetation assessments, wetland valuations, construction monitoring)
  • Supervision of contractors on site, and construction site monitoring to ensure compliance with the scope of work, environmental legislation and permits
  • Travel as required for field programs (Alberta, BC, Saskatchewan) and working outdoors in a variety of weather conditions
  • Working independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team, often outside of typical office hours and days, to meet challenging deadlines and client requests
  • Assisting other business lines and disciplines, both within and outside of the Water and Environment group.
