JOB SUMMARY
Reporting to the Executive Director, the Restaurant Manager Cook is responsible for the overall management and operation of a restaurant that adheres to all standards, procedures and systems including, but not limited to, the leadership, training and management of staff, food and labour costs, inventory, sanitation and food safety, recipe adherence, and the overall quality of food and presentation including on-site catering.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Prepare nutritious and enjoyable meals for students, staff and general public and catering events as required.
- Plan and work within a budget, plan and price menu items as needed.
- Order all food required for restaurant and catering needs.
- Responsible for hiring, training and overseeing staff and volunteers.
- Ensure daily, weekly, and monthly cleaning tasks are followed and completed using checklists; maintain and enforce monthly maintenance checklists.
- Manage catering events including organizing food requirements, setup and serving personnel that may include occasional evenings and weekends.
- Responsible for the following areas including compliance with all applicable health codes: kitchen, dish room, pantry, preparation areas, dining area including helping with dishes and general clean up as required.
- Participate in kitchen work projects that may include cleaning and manual labour.
- Actively participate in all relevant meetings as required.
- Professional attitude at all times towards customers and coworkers.
- Other duties as required.
QUALIFICATIONS
years of prior cooking experience.
- Banquet experience.
- Minimum 1 year of kitchen management and/or combined supervisory experience.
- Food Handler's Certificate required.
- Good communication skills a must.
- Team player and selfmotivator.
- Able to work independently.
- Receptive to positive and critical feedback.
- Solid work history.
- Basic computer skills.
CONDITIONS
- Restaurant operates regular business hours from Monday to Friday.
- Some evening and weekend requirements (catering and banquets).
- Restaurant staff must be at work no later than 7:00 a.m.
- Driver's licence an asset.
- Dress code is appropriate restaurant dress, jacket, hat, and nonslip shoes.
