Overview:


Reporting to the Vice President, Manitoba & Saskatchewan, the General Manager has direct accountability for the safety, financial and operational performance of the Precast business across the market.

The GM executes the business strategy and provides leadership while maximizing profitability and optimization of resources, ensuring that all products and services that touch the customer are of high quality and customers receive excellent service.

Responsibilities:


The General Manager is responsible for all aspects of the Precast business, including brand and products, marketing, customer relations, sales, people, safety, environment, maintenance, purchasing, budget planning and control, and operations.


  • Sets long range goals and strategic plans, taking into account market conditions and trends, competitive environment and available resources
  • Establishes financial and operating goals and monitor progress towards achieving targets
  • Ensures accuracy in monthly, quarterly and annual financial forecasts
  • Drives continuous business performance improvement while never compromising Lafarge's commitment to providing a high quality product and superior service to the customer.
  • Works with direct managers to develop best practices, processes and to ensure all activities are optimized and costs are responsibly managed
  • Maintains a collaborative relationship with other product lines and same product line counterparts, promoting synergies that translate into strategic and competitive benefits for Lafarge.
  • Ensures preliminary design work is complete to accurately price projects, and ensure that designs add value and will give Lafarge the highest possible returns while maintaining quality and safety
  • Ensures project management, production, installation and quality control staff works effectively together to achieve results
  • Works with direct managers to develop best practices, processes and to ensure all activities are optimized and costs are best in class
  • Effectively uses Lafarge resources and programs to drive operational excellence.
  • Provides leadership and vision for the health & safety culture and implement best practices and provide visible personal leadership
  • Demonstrates respect to the environment, ensuring all local, provincial and federal regulations are met or exceeded by following Lafarge best practices and site permits requirements.
  • Develops key personnel and strive to ensure all staff have the tools and support necessary to grow within their positions
  • Ensures the right persons are in the right position, employee expectations for performance are clear, and effort is recognized
  • Is present in all locations of the operations, and to be open to all levels of the organization, to communication and concerns.
  • Encourages respectful, productive relationships between management, employees and the union

Relationships with Others Jobs:


  • Reports to the Vice President, Manitoba & Saskatchewan
  • Collaborates across market areas and across other product lines
  • Works closely with other managers, plant managers, and sales teams in the MBSK market
  • Works collaboratively with functional leadership teams (finance manager, credit manager, health & safety manager, environment manager, procurement manager and human resource manager)
  • Close interaction with customers to maintain and build key relationships to support customer attraction and retention

Specific Accountabilities:


  • Ensures market strategies are developed, executed and monitored to maximize market opportunities.
  • Prepares sales and operating budgets, in line with market and country objectives, and build actions plans that are regularly reviewed to ensure targets and objectives are achieved.
  • Works with the sales, projects and operations teams to develop goals and objectives, implement actions, track performance and continuously look for opportunities for improvement.
  • Promotes a positive safety culture through leadership by example.
  • Participates in the building of the career and succession plans for key positions and employees. Identify opportunities to build from within and create a sustainable workforce.
