Summary of Position

Roles & Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the creative output of design and to consistently achieve our 'gold standard' quality. Essentially, leading and being a key contributor to our team's creation of stunningly beautiful experiences.
  • Provide a clear design vision and process to ensure all expectations are aligned with other business units, ensuring delivery to our client on time and on budget.
  • Provide creative leadership to our design team by continuously advancing our design acumen. Mentoring our designers in a manner that is collaborative, fun, and accountable.
  • Oversee all creative initiatives and activities within the design studio.
  • Ensure that the structure and allocation of resources in the design studio matches the requirements of the company and our clients.
  • Create an atmosphere of a comradery, collaboration and accountability among the design team.
  • Encourage synergy between all departments with the goal of providing high standard design solutions.
  • Collaborate with other department leaders to identify and mitigate any project process bottlenecks that inhibit success of a client project.
  • Establish clear expectations and Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) for the design team.
  • Encourage freedom among Senior Designers to generate their own ideas and perspectives on projects and utilize their skills and experience to run them effectively.
  • Mentor junior designers, so that methodologies and processes can be cross pollinated, to create well rounded designers for the future and not carbon copies of a single person, attitude or perspective.
  • Create a pool of external freelance talent to address specific design criteria to allow the company to handle a high volume of work.
  • Work with internal teams to generate new innovative ideas and solutions for our business, encouraging future success and growth.
  • Any other duties that may be assigned from time to time, in line with the role, competencies and skills.

Qualifications & Skills Required

  • 10+ years of related industry experience, and significant time in a senior or lead designer capacity
  • Post graduate degree in industrial design, environmental design, or similar.
  • 5+ years' people management experience preferred
  • A portfolio which demonstrates various creatives and execution of fixture design, brand representation and experiential design.
  • Comfortable leading design presentations to Csuite clients and stakeholders.
  • Compelling design skills. Ability to visualize ideas in both 2 and 3 dimensions.
  • Ability to work independently in a fastpaced environment and ability to recognize and respond to changing business and industry trends and priorities.
  • Strong presentation and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to analyze and understand business performance and to think objectively, interpreting meaningful themes from quantitative and qualitative data.
  • Ability to be 'commerciallysensitive' when evaluating financial and business indicators and translating data into actionable information to drive improved results.
  • Strong analytical, decisionmaking, and problemsolving skills.
  • Excellent leadership, interpersonal, and communication skills with the ability to communicate with executives and frontline employees.
  • Ability to build constructive and effective relationships with colleagues and diverse groups of partners.
  • Must have proficient general computer skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Adobe, Outlook), as well as advanced skills in design specific software such as Keyshot, Solidworks, and Adobe CC.
  • Experience working in a small to medium sized B2B organization delivering products or services to large organizations in Canada considered an asset.
  • Indepth knowledge of production planning considered an asset.
