***: The Director of Care (DOC) is a Registered Nurse certified with the College of Nurses Ontario (CNO), with additional specialized academic qualifications and experience, who provides education, coordination and supervision to nursing staff through expertise and Leading Practices in Gerontological and relevant clinical and management theory and practices. They are a multi-faith, multi-cultural leader responsible for providing holistic, compassionate care to the Sisters living in the Motherhouse, integrating the mission and core values of the Sisters of Providence of St. Vincent de Paul, respecting individuality and dignity of Sisters and staff.


As the private care home of the Sisters of Providence congregation, the Director of Care is responsible for the management and leadership of all aspects of nursing and personal supports services and is required to meet the needs and expectations of the Sisters to the level of the standards and guidelines of the Long-Term Care Act.

This position is actively involved in recruitment and retention of nursing staff team members and monitors performance of Registered and Unregulated Care Providers in the nursing department.

The DOC is responsible for overall excellence of clinical care through planning, implementing, monitoring and evaluating programs related to Sisters care.

Experience

  • Progressive management experience in healthcare, with a minimum of five years Director of Care experience in a Long Term Care environment. Ten (10) years experience as senior charge nurse and five (5) years in a senior management role may be considered.
  • Previous experience in a Long Term Care Facility would be considered an asset.

Knowledge

  • Occupational Health & Safety, Pharmacy Standards, Palliative Care, Employment Standards, Collective Agreements, WSIB
  • Demonstrated success leading in interdisciplinary teams, as well as familiarity with Long Term Care assessment and care planning processes.

Skills & Abilities

  • Supervisory leadership of all Nursing Care Team members with a focus on performance accountabilities, development and coaching
  • Excellent problemsolving and decisionmaking skills
  • Strategic planning and change management experience
  • Ability to manage competing priorities and demands in an environment with high expectations and frequent and competing deadlines
  • Professional competencies related to communication, life long learning, public relations and health environment awareness
  • Strong customer service and interpersonal skills to interface with internal and external clients and partners in a professional manner.
  • Strong organizational skills; detail oriented and able to prioritize multiple complex tasks and activities meeting conflicting priorities and timelines.
  • Ability to work independently (with mínimal supervision) within a teamdelivered organizational model.
  • Demonstrated skills in documentation, written reports, presentations and clinical evaluations
