    Job Purpose:

    The Lead Operator position is responsible for the day-to-day safe and customer service oriented operations of waste treatment, oil treatment and water injection. The Lead Operator will be in constant contact with customers and therefore, must demonstrate excellent communications skills and a high level of customer service. In this role, the Lead Operator will be active in providing proper training to Operator Trainees, as such, strong attention to detail is imperative. As this is a safety-sensitive role and due to the nature of working conditions, the Lead Operator is required to be mentally and physically fit to in order to successfully perform the tasks and responsibilities of this role.

    Essential Duties & Responsibilities

    The responsibilities of this role include, but are not limited to:

  • Responsible for proper equipment operation
  • Administering scale operations and data entry
  • Conducting ongoing equipment maintenance
  • Maintaining general housekeeping duties
  • Ensuring landfill and building maintenance
  • Collecting random samples
  • Qualifications/Competencies

    The individual in this role will have:

  • A High School Diploma, General Education Diploma or equivalent
  • A valid and acceptable Driver's license and successful completion of Pre-employment testing
  • A minimum of 4 years' experience with equipment and computer systems
  • Current and valid safety tickets, including; H2S Alive, First Aid Level One C, Confined Space Entry, WHIMS and TDG
  • A strong attention to detail, communication skills and a profound ability to work long hours in a mentally and physically demanding work environment
  • Proven ability to clearly and accurately document their work and ensure consistent communication with the Facility Manager and other Leads
  • Must be able to multi-task and demonstrate good decision-making skills
  • Proven ability to work well under limited amount of supervision
  • Must demonstrate excellent customer service skills and safe work practices

    It is expected that the Lead Operator is highly experienced with all operations at the landfill, including scale operation, heavy equipment operation, truck ticketing system, landfill and building maintenance, and sampling. A Lead Operator must demonstrate the profound ability to troubleshoot the following equipment and processes with occasional supervision:

  • Waste Placement strategy
  • Scale operation and data entry
  • Equipment operation and maintenance

  • Weekly/monthly inspections
  • General housekeeping

  • Please note: The Lead Landfill Operator will support Bonnyville, AB and Virden, MB landfill operations. The Janvier Facility operates 24 hrs/7days a week. Shifts are 14 days on, 14 days off.
