The Position:
Reporting to the Manager, Program and Services and in keeping with the mission, vision and values of Muscular Dystrophy Canada the Service Specialist is responsible for offering services, programs and support for individuals, families and groups affected by neuromuscular disorders.
Responsibilities:
- Deliver supports and services to individuals living with neuromuscular disorders, including assisting to find appropriate community supports, such as housing, employment, medical, recreation, socialization and related funding
- Work in partnership with and attend neuromuscular clinic(s)
- Develop, plan, implement and attend Care Giver and Family Retreats hosted by MDC
- Participate in Chapter activities
- Develop and facilitate network meetings for clients, with a focus on education and socialization
- Deliver presentations to schools and other agencies to explain the role of the Service Specialist and MDC
- Work in collaboration with our Philanthropy team to promote and engage clients in our fundraising activities such as Walk & Roll, Boot Drives and other organizational events
Your Qualifications:
- Completion of a degree or college diploma in the fields of health, human services, social work or a related discipline
- One year of experience working with individuals affected by a wide spectrum of disabilities
- Previous knowledge or understanding of provincial supports offered, these should include funding resources for equipment and Assistive Devices, Social Housing, Advocacy, and working in collaboration with other likeminded organizations.
- Experience coordinating volunteers
- Bilingual (considered an asset)
- Proficiency in computer programs such as word, excel, and outlook
- Ability to multi task
This position requires a valid driver's license and access to a reliable vehicle, with occasional evening and weekend work required, along with regular travel throughout the Atlantic region and occasional travel outside of the region.

Salary:
$50,000.00-$60,000.00 per year

Ability to commute/relocate:
- Halifax, NS: reliably commute or plan to relocate before starting work (required)
