Position Overview

Student Success advising is a developmental process which considers students' academic needs and goals, interests, prior education, and previous workforce and life experience.

Student Success Advisors (SSAs) promote positive student outcomes, program satisfaction based on student goals, and retention by referring students in need of additional resources.

The primary objective is to assist students with making informed decisions concerning their educational goals. Additionally, once a student has started a program at our college, SSAs are available for students who are interested in counselling and assistance regarding career and vocational decisions

Education and Qualifications
- (should) have a diploma or degree in a related field, with preference given to degree in education or humanities;
- have experience in counselling, advising, or related careers in education or support services (preferred);
- have familiarity with Private Career Colleges and the Private Career Colleges Act (asset);
- be familiar with the Accessibility of Ontarians with Disabilities Act (asset);
- have strong clerical and administrative procedures;
- succeed with computer programs such as Microsoft Office Suite, Microsoft Outlook, Google Mail, Docs and Calendar, Skype, Adobe, and Moodle;
- conduct themselves professionally at all times;
- be able to communicate effectively with internal staff.

Duties and Responsibilities

Increase student success, student satisfaction, and informed decision making
Participate in and support students with accommodations and success plans
Assist students in understanding academic regulations, policies, procedures and programs
Research and provide input into the development of policies, processes and programs
Work collaboratively with internal and external partners to promote student success
Assist with Student Employment and Loan Management
Other duties as assigned and appropriate
