The H&S Specialist will lead all Health & Safety related programs, training and initiatives for Canada Goose locations across the country.

The Specialist will partner with all functions and department leaders to establish a culture of safety and operational excellence and will be responsible for ensuring all programs comply with legislated provincial requirements.

Key Responsibilities:


  • Set the strategy and plans for achieving HS excellence. Partner with company leadership to establish an organizational culture that fosters positive safety behaviors and practices at all levels
  • Ensure the company meets or exceeds requirements established by government and regulatory agencies
  • Develop and implement programs, training/education, and policies/procedures which create a proactive approach to safety and promote continuous improvement in safetyrelated indicators
  • Collaborate and communicate effectively with stakeholders to identify needs, evaluate current programs or find alternative solutions and strategies
  • Lead hazard and risk assessments to proactively identify areas of opportunity and support the implementation of necessary controls. Facilitate internal/external audits against recognized standards
  • Supervise investigations of incidents /near misses and determine corrective action plans. Take decisive action and appropriate actions when standards are not met
  • Implement, lead and monitor Health and Safety orientation and training programs for employees and managers and manage the documentation
  • Provide guidance and support to managers across the organization on safety related programs, policies and procedures to ensure legislative and policy compliance
  • Prepare health and safety training reports as required
  • Ensure all Health and Safety related documentation and records required under the Health and Safety Program are maintained on file
  • Advise supervisory/management of Health and Safety training requirements for all employees to ensure program and legislative compliance, while maintaining related documentation and records
  • Provide support and guidance to management to ensure compliance with relevant provincial legislation including waste & hazardous waste management as well as emergency response/reporting protocols
  • Assist and support managers with Accident Investigation Reports
  • Prepare and coordinate Gradual Return to Work plans and/or modified duty plans
  • Compile monthly H&S stats into a monthly H&S report and distribute to all managers or as necessary
  • Analyze workplace accident/incident history and make recommendations to management to reduce and eliminate hazards in the workplace
  • Acts as internal HS consultant providing leadership, guidance and advice on a wide range of HS topics
  • Lead JHSC in Winnipeg locations and provide guidance / consult for other CG locations
Additional Information


Experience, Education and Designations:


  • Post secondary education in Occupational Health and Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Environment Health, or a related field. Equivalent combinations of education/training and experience in occupational health and safety
  • 34 years experience in manufacturing setting
  • Knowledge in the technical fundamentals of safety management and risk assessments and reduction, including machinery & process safety, industrial hygiene, loss prevention, ergonomics and occupational health
  • Experience conducting inspections, investigations, audits, quality assurance, or program evaluation for the purpose of meeting accepted standards and/or legislation

Knowledge, Skills and Attributes:


  • Must be bilingual; fluent in French & English
  • Knowledge of occupational health and safety fundamentals, principles, rights, duties and responsibilities across multiple provinces
  • Strong understanding of Disability Management & Return to Work programs and policies
  • Excellent verbal communication skills
  • Strong written communication skills with the ability to write reports and related documents in a clear and concise manner
  • Ability to lead and manage difficult situations
