Education:
Other trades certificate or diploma
- Experience: 3 years to less than 5 years
Work setting:
- Repair
- Industrial
Tasks:
- Read sketches and blueprints to calculate materials required
- Work at heights, on scaffolding or swing stages
- Instruct apprentices
- Lay or install firebricks to line industrial chimneys and smokestacks
- Line or reline furnaces, kilns, boilers and similar installations using refractory or acidresistant bricks, refractory concretes, plastic refractories and other materials
- Restore, clean or paint existing masonry structures
Certificates, licences, memberships, and courses:
- Bricklayer Trade Certification
- Bricklayer Red Seal Certificate
- Occupational Health and Safety Certificate
- First Aid Certificate
- Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS) Certificate
- Fall Arrest Protection Training Course
Security and safety:
- Basic security clearance
Work conditions and physical capabilities:
- Physically demanding
- Handling heavy loads
- Standing for extended periods
- Bending, crouching, kneeling
Own tools/equipment:
- Steeltoed safety boots
