Who are you?_

You graduated from a recognized educational cooking program and have a valid Food Safe certificate. You have experience in preparing food using methods such as roasting, grilling, steaming, boiling and baking. You are enthusiastic about your craft.

You have good ethics, enjoy working with people and have the ability to establish and maintain positive relationships with residents and colleagues.

Summary of the position:_


  • Prepares assigned food items by following established menus, recipes, and quantity quotas, determining ingredients and quantities required, and assembling ingredients and equipment for cooking. _in accordance with predetermined menu requirements and sanitation, and according to established policies and procedures of an institutional kitchen._
  • Plans preparation and cooking schedules.
  • Advises the Director of Food Services or Cook II of any shortage of supplies; accepts delivery of food items; ensures that supplies are received in good condition and stored in a safe and sanitary manner; and maintains established food rotation in storage in order to minimize spoilage and waste.
  • Plans cooking schedule to minimize time between completion of cooking and serving.
  • Cooks and seasons assigned food and therapeutic diet items such as soups, sauces, salads, starches, meat, fish, poultry, vegetables and desserts by methods/procedures such as roasting, frying, grilling, steaming, poaching, boiling, baking and bulk re-thermalization; and tests food items for palatability and temperature and adjusts accordingly.
  • Reports any equipment breakdown and any unusual occurrences to proper authorities.
  • Carves food items such as meat and poultry, and controls portioning of food items to ensure recipe yield meets assigned quantity quotas.
  • Maintains a clean work area and performs cleaning according to work schedules.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:_

  • Graduation from a recognized 12month cooking program or an equivalent combination of education training and experience.
  • Valid Food Safe Certificate
