The Role
Responsible for troubleshooting, servicing, and repairing both Company and competitor's lift trucks and other equipment at Crown locations. Supervises Shop Service Technicians, shop efficiency, planning and scheduling of shop work, and flow of shop service paperwork. This position reports the Shop Service Manager and Service Manager. Reporting to this position are Shop Service Lead Technicians and Shop Service Technicians.

  • Troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair Crown and all other makes of lift trucks and other equipment. Repair, replace or rebuild equipment components such as internal combustion engines, electric motors (drive/pump/auxiliary), cylinders (tilt/lift/reach), brake systems, electrical systems, drive units, mast assemblies and frame weldments.
  • May perform total rebuilds of lift trucks and/or other equipment.
  • Perform safety and operational tests.
  • May estimate or quote repair costs. Complete necessary repair paperwork.
  • Place parts orders.
  • Supervise the Lead and Shop Technicians and plan the flow of work through the shop.
  • Train and oversee Shop Technicians in proper safety practices for servicing and operating equipment.
  • Oversee inspection, diagnosis, troubleshooting, and repair of lift trucks and other equipment.
  • Review Shop Technicians' paperwork and timecards.
  • Communicate with branch management and other personnel on shop work status.
  • Collaborate with rental department regarding maintenance and condition of fleet.
  • Ensure any modifications to equipment are approved and meet factory specifications.
  • Maintain an organized and clean shop.
  • Participate in recruiting and interviewing activities.
  • Responsible for training, coaching, motivating, and developing direct reports to successfully take on additional responsibilities.
  • Collaborate with manager to perform employee performance reviews.
  • Work with personnel department and management on disciplinary actions including terminations.
  • Troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair batteries and chargers as needed. Lay down and standup trucks. Clean equipment.
  • Perform miscellaneous building repairs as assigned.
  • May be responsible for maintenance of the building, shop equipment and the grounds surrounding the building.
  • Assist in maintaining inventory of equipment stored in building.
  • Perform weekly/monthly Health and Safety inspections and keep records updated.
  • Perform other tasks as assigned.

Physical Requirements

  • Able to safely operate lift trucks and vehicles
  • Able to sit, stand, walk, bend/stoop/twist, squat, reach below knee level, grip/grasp, work with arm outstretched, and work above chest level
  • Able to lift/carry/push/pull up to 50 lbs
  • Able to occasionally reach above shoulder level, climb stairs, climb ladders, torque, use vibratory tools, and pinch grip

Education and Qualifications

  • High school diploma
  • 5 years of service technician experience
  • Technical and repair knowledge is necessary
  • Valid driver's license is preferred
  • Good writing, oral communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Computer knowledge including MS Word/Excel/PowerPoint and Outlook
