Interior Health is hiring a relief part time Life Skills Support Worker to join our team at McKim Cottage in Nelson, B.C.

This relief is until the return of the incumbent.


Who are we looking for?


We are seeking experienced mental health worker who is confident working independently as well as in a team, is adaptable and has a fun sense of humor to join our small but mighty team.


What will you work on?
Life Skills Workers play an important role in care. They plan, observe, monitor and report on clients' progress and level of acceptance to services and support.

They assist clients with activities associated with daily living and work to demonstrate and model appropriate behaviors related to problem solving and decision making.


Shifts of work are rotating days, evenings & nights; 07:00 to 16:00, 11:00 to 21:00 and 21:00 to 07:00 hours.


About this location/unit
McKim Cottage is a 5-bed residential licensed mental health facility operating in the community.

This facility is for individuals who have a mental illness or psychiatric concerns and are interested in working on personal wellness, community integration, and achieving desired quality of life.

McKim Cottage provides many services including adult community support, adult short-term assessment and treatment, community residential programs, geriatric programs, crisis intervention, day and outpatient programs, addictions counselling, concurrent disorders services, group therapy, peer support, and after-hours mental health support.

McKim Cottage is staffed by a life skill worker 24 hours per day. There are other nurses that come in during the day and provide support, medication management and conduct one-on-one's.

Although McKim is a residential licensed facility, it is very based in the community and taps into the community resources in Nelson and the surrounding area.

Education, Training and Experience:

  • Mental Health Worker Certificate or Human Services Worker Certificate or Addictions Worker Certification
  • Two years recent related experience working with individuals living with mental illness, and/or substance use problems/disorders; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience
  • Food Safe Level 1 Certificate
  • Standard First Aid with CPR
  • Nonviolent crisis intervention training
  • Current valid BC Driver's License
