The Opportunity:


Under the direction of the Manager of the Neonatal Care Team, the Materials & Equipment Coordinator is responsible for the co-ordination of an effective and efficient purchasing and inventory program for supplies and equipment for the Neonatal Care Team (Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) and Perinatal Follow Up Program) of IWK Health, including requisitioning of medical/surgical supplies, instruments, or other procurement items as identified.

Is responsible for receiving and storage of supplies.

The Materials and Equipment Coordinator collaborates with the Purchasing Department to ensure the procurement of goods and services is being performed in accordance with the established policies and procedures of the Purchasing Department.


Key responsibilities will include but are not limited to; Ensuring the specific equipment and supply needs of the Neonatal Care Team are met in the most efficient manner possible by establishing and maintaining an Inventory System; Frequently monitors stock and non-stock supplies; Communicates with Manager/Operations Manager and /or Clinical Leader of Operations with regards to supply and equipment requirements and anticipated significant spending; Communicates with the NICU Unit Aides and/or Clinical Leader of Operations regarding unit needs/backorders/supply interruptions; Liaises with Purchasing Department to provide accurate, current pricing information to the NICU for operating and capital equipment budget items; Initiates and manages purchase requisition orders for the NICU and Perinatal Follow Up Program (including evaluation/no charge/sample/repairs/loaner); Obtain vendor quotes for capital equipment and expendable budget requests; Coordination, communication and liaison with vendors regarding any supply or equipment issues and Management of direct and special order items for the NICU; Provides coverage to the Material and Equipment Coordinator in the Women's and Newborn Health Program.


Hours of Work:

Monday - Friday 7.5 hour shifts


Your Qualifications:


  • Grade 12 diploma or GED required
  • Graduate from a recognized twoyear Business Administration Diploma Program required.
  • Minimum of 6 months previous work experience in a similar role required. An equivalent combination of education and work experience may be considered.
  • Courses in EDP, Principles of Buying and Inventory Control required
  • Level II in either PMAC or PLog preferred
  • Demonstrates high degree of independent decisionmaking, selfdirection, motivation, changemanagement knowledge, and team building/leadership skills.
  • Previous health care or SPD experience preferred.
  • Microsoft Office, including Excel spreadsheets and Meditech an asset.
  • Materials management software knowledge an asset.
  • Demonstrated and/or experience with SAP an asset.
  • Proven communication and decisionmaking skills required and ability to plan ahead for equipment needs.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
  • Competencies in other languages an asset
