Baby's New Beginnings Pregnancy Outreach Program

Family Support Worker

Job Summary:

Gathers information on and assess family functioning problems. Develops and

implements intervention plans within program guidelines. Provides referrals, support,

guidance and problem solving to clients to address issues related to family functioning.

Provides parenting skill building, emotional support and feedback to clients.


Reports to:
Family Program's Manager


Key Duties and Responsibilities:

Provides pregnant women with the relevant information and lifestyle support they

require to increase the probability of a healthy pregnancy, with the goal of

improving maternal and infant health.

Completes electronic files, intakes and record keeping

Facilitates groups as required.

Consults with program manager, and nurse re: client status and case planning.

Engages with the philosophy and services consistent with the BC Pregnancy

Outreach Guidelines specific to healthy eating and active living, harm reduction,

breastfeeding, and access to health care.

Supporting early parenting skill enhancement.

Provides one on one counselling.

Advocates for clients with other community resources upon their request and

where appropriate, makes referrals to community agencies as required.

Organizes access to nutritious food for program participants.

Participates in evaluation of program, as requested.

Attends meetings relevant to the program, as required.

Ensures that the Baby's New Beginnings Pregnancy Outreach Program is well

known in the community through networking, advertising, and other program

promotion strategies.

Reviews client files, intake assessments and identified risk factors.

Performs other related duties, as required.

**Qualifications:

Education, Training and Experience_:
_**
The minimum requirements for this position are
Bachelor's degree in a related human / social service field.

September 2019

One (1) year recent related experience in the social services sector with a working

knowledge of high-risk pre and post-natal women.

Or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience

Knowledge of early childhood development an asset

Valid BC driver's license and a vehicle in good working condition


Skills Required:

Good interpersonal communication, oral and written skills

Demonstrated working knowledge of high risk pre and post natal women

Knowledge of early childhood development.

Solid understanding of a harm reduction approach

Understanding of issues related to high risk, marginalized pregnant and newly

parenting women and their babies.

Ability to work effectively with other program staff and community partners.

Ability to work independently and be a team player

Good organization and time management skills
Proficient computer skills
