POSITION:
Mobile Crisis Worker

Mobile Crisis Rapid Response Team (MCRRT)

Temporary Full-Time

- ***:_ _The Mobile Crisis Worker is primarily responsible to act as a first response intervention for mental health and/or addictions related crisis where the individual requests or is deemed in need of mental health and/or addictions crisis response intervention. The Mobile Crisis Worker will assist in deescalating the acuity of the crisis, support the individual to stabilize, and link the individual to local mental health and addictions services as required. The Mobile Crisis Worker will utilize evidence-based methods and best practices to: manage client crisis, develop strategies to assist clients to prevent further crisis, provide monitoring and support as they work through their crisis plans and recovery plans, and establish personal goals that move them towards recovery. Secondary to that, where necessary, the worker will provide follow-up brief intervention support to service recipients. Community education will also be included in this role. Travel will include all 8 emergency departments in Huron and Perth counties, client's home, as well as community sites with police services to complete assessments as required. Staff will be expected to work in both Huron and Perth communities in this position. _

QUALIFICATIONS:_

  • Masters degree in Social Work, Occupational Therapy, or Registered Nurse required_
  • Current registration with a regulated college in Ontario, such as OCSWSSW, OSPT, CNO_
  • Current licensure with appropriate college or association_
  • Extensive knowledge of the Recovery Principles and Recovery Model_
  • Completion of Non Violent Crisis Intervention Training _
  • Knowledge of the Criminal Justice System within Ontario_
  • Knowledge of Narrative Practice in single session therapy preferred_
  • Certification in Brief Solutions Focused Therapy preferred_
  • Completion of suicide training program preferred_
  • Completion of a crisis intervention certificate program preferred_
  • Current CPR certification_
    REQUIREMENTS:
_

  • Minimum five years current progressive clinical experience working with individuals with a serious mental illness and/or addictions in a health care setting and/or community based setting_
  • Minimum three years experience working with individuals with an Acquired Brain Injury, Intellectual Disability, and/or Developmental Disability_
  • Minimum three years experience in responding to crisis situations with a variety of individuals in the community and hospital setting_
  • Experience working with homeless shelters and/or with individuals that have been homeless is an asset_

SKILLS/ABILITIES:_

  • Demonstrated knowledge of issues faced by individuals in acute mental health/addiction distress and by individuals with severe mental health illness. _
  • Knowledge of community services and mental health, addiction treatment and support programs. _
  • Knowledge of mental health reform and values, principles of recovery, Mental Health Act, PHIPPA, Health Care Consent Act and Public Hospitals Act. _
  • Knowledge of the Criminal Justice System within Ontario, Child and Family Services Act, Provincial Offenses Act, and Criminal Code of Canada._
  • Demonstrated ability to independently conduct formal mental health and addiction assessment, short term crisis counseling and referral_
  • Ability to identify and mobilize resources in crisis situations. To act confidently and independently in the formulation of future interventions and to appreciate the client's role in decision making, where appropriate. _
  • Personal transportation and hold a valid Ontario driver's license._
  • Auto endorsement insurance for the purposes of patient transportation_
  • Demonstrated ability to complete treatment plans and crisis plans with the client, community partners and colleagues. _
  • Ability and willingness to travel to clients' homes, independently or in the company of local police services to complete assessments and to independently provide assessment to local ER physicians and physicians in offices when required. _
  • Selfdirected, motivated team player with a commitment to ongoing professional development and client and family centred care_
