SCOPE

Reporting to the Manager, Student Communications at University Communication Services (UCS) and with a dotted line reporting relationship to the Executive Director, Student Experience, the incumbent develops and executes communications/marketing plans, strategies, tactics and materials for the Student Services sector targeting all students.


PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develop, execute and maintain the communications strategies and plans for the Student Services sector and for initiatives/projects targeting students to enhance the student experience, student success and engagement. Oversee project timelines and production schedules.
  • Write/create content and oversee the production of materials targeting students and on behalf of Student Services for a variety of channels (print, digital, and social media) and mediums. Content and materials include but is not limited to web content, notices, articles, enewsletter content for the CRM and NOW, ads, videos, reports, brochures, flyers, photoshoots student profiles and other media. Ensure that all materials are clear, uptodate, wellwritten, use appropriate imagery and tone of voice, target intended audiences and reflect Concordia's identity and brand. Liaise with other University Communication Services units as needed. Coordinate translations as required. Ensure harmonization of brand elements across all materials, including content created by other units or departments, where possible.
  • Provide support in the development, creation and placing of content for the Student Hub, Concordia app as well as various websites to enhance the student experience and student journey. Write and edit content and in collaboration with Student Services leadership, maintain a content/editorial calendar.
  • Establish a mechanism/process to regularly inform and educate Concordia employees (faculty & staff) regarding Student Services initiatives and programs.
  • Assist in the material production in support of Concordia's annual Open Houses and Orientation. Collaborate with the Open House operational leads in Enrolment Services and School of Graduate Studies as well as the Orientation operational leads in Services for New Students. Liaise with relevant UCS units as needed to facilitate material production.
  • Collaborate on crossfaculty, interunit or universitywide initiatives from time to time, when requested by UCS.
  • Establish and implement metrics to measure the successfulness of communications strategies and tactics. Develop benchmarks and identify best communications practices, sharing insights and results with stakeholders.
  • Prepare materials for the Student Services Directors such as speeches, talking points and other relevant documentation and organize preparatory material for media interviews. Liaise with UCS Media Relations team for press releases.
  • Develop content for external channels and audiences, including NOW articles, news releases and information for the media. Content includes things such as showcasing student initiatives and programs, appointment notices, CCSL award recipients and other items of general interest to the public.
  • Undertake other tasks as required and assigned by supervisor.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's Degree in Communications, Journalism, English, or a related field and two to four years of relevant experience of related experience in corporate communications or public relations.
  • Very good knowledge (Level 5) of spoken and written English; to and write fluently and persuasively on sensitive and complex topics. Good knowledge (Level 4) of spoken French; to give and understand descriptions that may involve complicated details and to support opinions.
  • Proven ability to develop and implement and execute marketing and communications plans and initiatives to internal and external audiences.
  • Proven experience in social media strategy, analytics and content creation through a variety of channels.
  • Knowledge of the higher education sector or environment is desirable.
