    The Financial Services Branch of Alberta Arts, Culture and Status of Women provides expertise and leadership in all financial matters affecting the ministry. Located in downtown Edmonton, our group of professionals likes to work hard, yet enjoy a fun and small team environment.     Role Responsibilities

    Reporting to the Manager, Financial Administration and Operations, you will play an integral role in the comprehensive management of the ministry's financial operations. This includes developing and implementing ministry-wide financial policies and procedures, helping to address the ministry's financial audit requirements, developing and implementing ministry-wide internal controls, and reviewing the day-to-day financial operations.

    You will maintain the integrity of financial data within the following functions: Grants and Contracts, Travel & Expense Claims, P-Card, Accounts Payable (AP), Accounts Receivable (AR) and General Ledger.

    Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Performing financial and operational reviews as part of the Accounting Officer function
  • Analyzing financial information in order to provide advice. This entails identifying possible options and recommending a course of action
  • Researching and developing financial policies and procedures adhering to financial legislation, GoA best practices and ministry requirements. Communicating policy changes to ministry staff
  • Guiding implementations and upgrades of new systems &/or functionality by accessing impact and risk on Ministry operations, such as implementation of systems upgrades, new functionally and systems, etc.
  • Safeguarding Ministry system controls and security administration by overseeing expenditure approvers, designing procedures, monitoring periodic reviews of end user access that address risks for both ministry & non-ministry staff
  • Innovating continuous improvements, including oversight of ministry reporting including audit reporting, system reports and other risk mitigating functions
  • Designing ministry training plans for financial systems and controls and coordinate their delivery as well as guide and support operations by providing specialized advice regarding financial control
  • Participating in external or internal committees as the ministry representative
  • Providing mentorship and supervision of junior employees
  • The candidate will possess a well-developed analytical and problem-solving ability, excellent verbal and written communication, inter-personal and supervisory skills, good organizational and time management skills, ability to foster a team environment, and ability to work with individuals at all levels of the organization.
