    Job Description:

    The incumbent will be part of the Retail Advice & Solutions Reporting and Controls team and will be responsible for financial reporting & regulatory processes. This will encompass all of the accounting, analytical and reporting processes involved with ensuring our portfolio is in compliance with International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) and that all internal and external reporting requirements are met. The need to support in depth analysis and clearly define and communicate resolutions requires an advanced level of technical proficiency, analytical insight and operational efficiency.

    The incumbent can expect to work with a variety of different groups including Retail Advice & Solutions Finance & Actuarial, Canadian Operations, Canadian Finance, Regulators, Audit and Tax.

    What will you do?
    • Responsibility for complete, accurate, and timely financial reporting & regulatory processes for Retail Advice & Solutions within the Canadian business group
    • Responsibility for preparation and analysis of quarterly earnings analysis, as well as accountability to provide additional explanations and interpretations of issues as required
    • Continue to enhance financial controls framework under IFRS 17 reporting including development of key disclosure analysis roll forwards and Finance 'Green Button' submissions
    • Provide leadership and support for strategic projects and ad-hoc requests, including interpretation of requests and development of processes and controls to incorporate the results of projects and initiatives into controlled and efficient reporting processes
    • Reporting and analysis to satisfy audit requirements and support the control environment, as well as supporting a continuous improvement working environment
    • Develop strong partnership with Actuarial team members to investigate and explain key drivers for financial results
    What do you need to succeed?
    • CPA designation with 4-6 years of related industry experience
    • Excellent communication and relationship management skills to service all members of the user community. This involves effective oral and written communication of technical information for technical and non-technical audiences
    • Strong operational expertise in reporting and systems competencies with a focus on continual process improvement and the ability to leverage automation to ensure efficient and effective operational processes
    • Ability to organize, prioritize and make decisions that require innovative thinking
    • Strong experience with the effective use of financial reporting systems and tools
    • Excellent PC Skills (MS Excel, Power Point, Word)
    Assets:
    • Knowledge of Insurance accounting, as well as regulatory rules for Insurance with the ability to translate into practical applications
    • Experience with SAP, and Tableau applications
    Notes/Unique Requirements:
    • Some overtime will be required during peak reporting periods (month and quarter ends)

    The Base Pay range is for the primary location for which the job is posted. It may vary depending on the work location of the successful candidate or other factors. In addition to Base Pay, eligible Sun Life employees participate in various incentive plans, payment under which is discretionary and subject to individual and company performance. Certain sales focused roles have sales incentive plans based on individual or group sales results.
