    Job Summary


    The Field Manager, Enhanced Train Control is responsible for overseeing the Enhanced Train Control (ETC) field-testing.

    The role is accountable for training personnel on ETC Operations, creating training materials, monitoring compliance, and troubleshooting incidents involving ETC.

    Moreover, the incumbent works collaboratively with other departments across the network to build ETC tools within current systems.


    Main Responsibilities


    Implementation


    • Oversee ETC field testing and implementation as well as develop field test requirements
    • Handle ETC test trains and all employees involved with the test train and be in the field to ensure safe operation, and test team compliance
    • Assist field Operations with incident investigations involving ETC
    • Collaborate with Operating Practices to establish ETC rules, while working with Training to create a training program, training simulations and user guide updates
    • Handle on-the-job training during ETC rollout, assisting the help desks with issue resolution, supporting incident investigations, and collaborating with other CN departments to integrate ETC tools into existing systems
    • Monitor ETC compliance once implemented
    • Actively participate in risk assessments as required
    People Management


    • Mentor field staff and managers in ETC best practices, including supporting On the Job Trainees (OJTs) from regions and provide constructive feedback for their development
    • Build and maintain relationships with the Regulatory teams
    Working Conditions


    The role is performed in an outdoor environment with various weather conditions and has a regular workweek from Monday to Friday.

    The incumbent must be available to work weekends when necessary.

    Due to the nature of the role, the incumbent must be able to meet tight deadlines, handle pressure, and stress.

    The role requires regular travel (40%) within Canada and the United States (U.S.).


    Requirements


    Experience

    Locomotive Engineer


    • Between 5 to 8 years of experience as a Locomotive Engineer
    o Supervisory Experience
    o Experience running test trains safely with a train crew, Information and Technology (I&T) test employees, and other CN managers
    o Demonstrated experience in creating various training materials such as documents, job aids, web-based training modules, and training videos
    *Any experience for these above would be considered as an asset

    Education/Certification/Designation


    • High School Diploma or General Educational Development (GED)
    • Canadian Rail Operating Rules (CROR) certified
    • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Transportation, Civil, or equivalent**Any designation for these above would be considered as an asset

    Technical Skills/Knowledge


    • Strong technical background with respect to transportation systems
    • Knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint)
    • Basic engineering knowledge including reading and reviewing plans
    • Knowledge of railroads, their regulations, and operating rules as well as an understanding of third party's requirements within CN
    • Fluently bilingual, both written and verbal (English, French)
    • Familiarity with Service Reliability System (SRS), Tabular General Bulletin Order (TGBO), and Railway Supplied Electronic Device (RSED) (e.g., crew tablet)
