Description

Through consulting services, the Prevention Consultant is responsible for developing, delivering and promoting injury prevention services to Industry Based Safety Programs (IBSPs) and partners, workplaces, and other external stakeholders with the goal of positively impacting workplace injury, illness, and fatality rates.

The incumbent builds and maintains relationships, ensuring quality of service within the assigned stakeholder group.


Job Duties:


Partners with various stakeholders including the Workers Compensation Board of Manitoba and Workplace Safety & Health to coordinate service delivery in support of SAFE Work Manitoba strategies.


Oversees a specific group of portfolio clients and supports the collaborative portfolio team environment by leading and participating in strategy development, decision-making, information sharing, and identifying opportunities for improvement.


Provides technical advice, consulting services and guidance to external stakeholders, relating to SAFE Work Manitoba strategies, initiatives, policies and processes.


Analyses injury data from multiple sources to identify trends and key workplace health and safety challenges including at-risk stakeholders within a portfolio.


Provides safety-related statistics and data; reviews the effectiveness of existing programming (including quality assurance reviews and gap analysis) and where necessary, in a consultative capacity, leverages, tailors and adds to portfolio strategies to design customized plans, programs, tools, and other safety resources to address safety concern(s).


Fosters and maintains strong working relationships with IBSPs, workplaces, and other external stakeholders; and promotes the objectives of SAFE Work Manitoba.

Leads and participates on project teams for various SAFE Work Manitoba initiatives and strategies. This includes developing, managing and monitoring projects and initiatives.

Responds to complex inquiries on applicable legislative requirements, labour/management relationships, safety/work refusals and operational efficiencies.

Facilitates SAFE Work Manitoba workshops/training and develops and maintains training materials and other resources.

Conducts outreach activities and delivers services and presentations at conferences, trade shows, public relation events, and association meetings.


Promotes safety certification and works with IBSPs and workplaces to achieve certification; audits workplaces and provides recommendations to improve safety and health program effectiveness.

This includes quality assurance of SAFE Work certification audits.


Collaborates with Workplace Safety & Health, Federal Labour Program, and the Workers Compensation Board in order to assess, develop and implement workplace support programs.

Acts as an ambassador/representative for SAFE Work Manitoba on committees and at events.

Performs other related duties as assigned


Qualifications:

University Degree in a related field

Minimum five (5) years experience in the development and delivery of safety and health initiatives or programs for clients, safety & health committees, representatives and employees in one of Safe Work Manitoba's priority industries; related experience in a unionized setting would be an asset

Certification/designation in occupational health and safety required. Specific certification/designation will be identified for each job posting based on operational need

Specialized knowledge of occupational health and safety theory, strategies, and industry-leading practices

Knowledge of project management principles and practices

Proficiency in the use of personal computers and software (Word, Excel and PowerPoint) in a Windows environment

Well-developed research and analytical skills demonstrated by the ability to obtain, assess and evaluate data to support decisions

Ability to organize and prioritize work load while managing multiple demands

Ability to work independently and lead projects and strategy development in a collaborative work environment

Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing including developing and delivering presentations and training

Ability to provide excellent customer service including managing potentially confrontational situations with tact and diplomacy

Ability to adapt to a changing environment

Must be able to travel as required including within city limits and within the province of Manitoba

Ability to communicate proficiently in both official languages (English & French) is an asset, but is not required
