Position Overview


Reporting to the Senior Financial Officer, and assisting the Financial Specialists, the Summer Financial Assistant works under Capacity Developments Shared Services supporting selected First Nation clients across Canada.


The Summer Finance Clerk is responsible for providing financial, and clerical services to First Nations clients, as well as internal support in financial and administrative operations.


Accountabilities

  • Work to support First Nation clients with tasks such as:
  • Performing general office support such as filing and other administrative tasks;
  • Accounting data entry including:
  • Processing invoices and payments;
  • Recording funding arrangements and receipts;
  • Maintaining the general ledger;
  • Producing reports such as income statements and balance sheets in a timely manner;
  • Checking for accuracy in reports;
  • Reconciling bank accounts & visa statements;
  • Confirming that transactions comply with financial policies;
  • Maintains confidentiality of all financial data;
  • Working collaboratively with a team.

Qualifications

  • Must be aged years to participate in the Canada Summer Jobs program; a permanent resident of Canada, a Canadian Citizens or legally permitted and protected under the Immigration and Refugee protection during the period of employment;
  • Enrolled or completion of a related Post Secondary program such as Accounting, Economics, Finance, Bookkeeping, or relevant field an asset;
  • Must have strong experience working with Microsoft Office Suite;
  • Experience working with enterprise resource management systems, or accounting systems;
  • Experience working with information and data management systems;
  • Experience working with Indigenous Governments, organizations and communities considered a strong asset;
  • Strong command of written and spoken English; French language skills considered an asset;
  • Strong attention to detail;
  • Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles;
  • Must have an understanding, awareness and appreciation of Indigenous culture and history.
Working Conditions

  • This position is based in Ottawa, Ontario, Remote or hybrid work the constituency will be considered.
  • Sixteen (16) week placement, 35 hours per week.
