When the hotel opened in 1929 it was the tallest building in the British Common Wealth and contained 1,048 rooms, a concert hall, library, extensive bakery, radio station and even a hospital.

Today, this essential downtown landmark has completed a multi-million dollar transformation, reimagining its lobby, rooms, dining venues, event spaces, and Fairmont Gold - the property's exclusive hotel within a hotel luxury experience.

Another stunning chapter for Fairmont Royal York has begun.


Job Description:


To administrate and aid the senior kitchen management team in effective and efficient verbal, written and electronic communication with guests, kitchen employees and other hotel departments as necessary.

He/she requires a strong understanding of the demands of a large quantity kitchen environment, administration and is part of a fast paced environment.

A calm demeanor, professional approach and strong computer skills are essential.

  • Act as a liaison between all other departments and the kitchen management team, communicating information about Human Resources needs, Catering and Sales requests and last minute information
  • Write, research and prepare reports, documents, menus and letters as requested by the kitchen management team
  • Arrange monthly staff general meetings
  • Prepare meeting minutes and distribute accordingly
  • Review and adjust daily payroll. Check and report all overtime for approval and reviewing with the Executive Chef.
  • Enter schedules in to Watson, Covering sick calls and any day of schedule adjusting
  • Submit biweekly payroll to Accounting and responsible for daily payroll upkeep
  • Prepare bimonthly sick pay reports to Human Resources to assist in payroll consolidation, as well as all Human Resource forms, accident reports, vacation forms, etc. Assist in Human Resource related issues to assist Sous Chefs and the Executive Chef, including all disciplinary meetings as needed
  • Retrieve and direct all mail, banquet event orders and last minute requests
  • Filing hard copies of material entering the office
  • Maintenance and ordering of supplies for all office needs and office equipment including fax machine, photocopier, printers and computers
  • Ordering of Kitchen Equipment, Small wares, or anything else requested by the kitchen team
  • Sending daily specials to Restaurant Reservations
  • Operate a variety of Windows based computer programs to ensure the success of the department including a digital camera for Chef's tastings with clients as well as for special events, and new menus
  • Process digital photographs and prepare posters, flyers and other internal documents as requested
  • Responsible for doing the kitchen schedule as well as any other related duties
  • Assist the stewarding team or any other of the F&B teams as needed
  • This role will cover the staff cafeteria management on the mangers days off
  • Other job related duties as assigned by supervisor

Qualifications:


  • Strong computer skills
  • Digital photography program experience, PowerPoint or Photoshop
  • College or University education in Hospitality, Administration or Communication
  • Strong interest in a professional kitchen environment and F & B
  • Food and Beverage experience required
  • Ability to work in a fastpaced environment and multitasking
  • Two way communication and proven advanced writing skills

Physical Aspects of Position include but are not limited to the following:

  • Constant standing and walking throughout shift
  • Frequent lifting and carrying up to 30 lbs
  • Constant kneeling, pushing, pulling, lifting
  • Frequent ascending or descending ladders, stairs and ramps
