Laboratory Systems Analyst:


Computer Science at the University of Saskatchewan is a large, applied science department in the College of Arts and Science.

Over the last ten years we have grown to our historical maxima in undergraduate students, graduate students, external research funding, and faculty complement.

We are home to award winning research in human computer interaction, software engineering, data analytics, visualization, bioinformatics, intelligence systems, cyber security, health informatics, and other areas.

Our graduates have gone on to hold faculty positions at prestigious universities around the world, and to corporations big and small.


Primary Purpose:


Provide on-going software and academic support for the operation of computer laboratories that meet the discipline-specific needs of undergraduate students in Computer Science.


Nature of Work:


The Laboratory:
The Computer Science Laboratory provides the critical teaching foundation for the department.

The laboratories provide a variety of student learning settings, including instructional laboratories; collaboration and experiment rooms; as well as open areas for individual work.

The staff maintains over five hundred servers, workstations, laptops, and other specialized devices with a wide variety of software used to support the teaching of programming languages, operating systems, software development, artificial intelligence, graphics, computer games, and other areas.

The Laboratory makes possible the early adoption of advanced research results, methods, and paradigms in undergraduate programs.

Interdisciplinary collaboration with other units on campus provides our students with practical experience in solving real-world problems and it also has great benefit to other campus researchers who leverage the expert advice available in the department.

The early adoption of new technologies, coupled with the broad requirements of the research, teaching and interdisciplinary collaboration enhances the value of our graduates to their eventual employers.


Typical Duties or Accountabilities:


  • Provide daytoday support for resolving technical issues in the Department's computing laboratories and research facilities.
  • Collaborate with instructors to provide and support tutorials and labs.
  • Act as a resource for the software used in assignments and projects.
  • Provide academic support for specialized hardware, including virtual reality devices, gaming platforms, and embeddable systems.
  • Collaborate with researchers to provide tutorials on specific research topics.
  • Collaborate with external vendors and USask agents for support services.
  • Provide operational support for internship and outreach events.

Education:

B.Sc. in Computer Science. M.Sc. in Computer Science preferred.


Experience:


Experience in a computer laboratory support role, preferably in a post-secondary setting, or experience in an instructional support role, preferably in a post-secondary setting.
