Mini Storage Assistant

Casual / on call position:


Objectives


The Program Assistant will be responsible for helping the Program Coordinators in their duties relating to management of the mini storage facility.

Assistants will be vetted and trained members of the Lived Experience community.

Conducting the intake, management, and laundering of client goods

Ensuring the facility is organized, clean, and safe

Maintaining relations with local homelessness-serving organizations

Developing and maintaining an understanding of homelessness in Kamloops, and of the services and supports available to homeless and at-risk individuals and families

Ensuring the program meets its HPS objectives


"To improve the self-sufficiency of homeless individuals and families and those at imminent risk of homelessness through the provision of individualized services"
Tracking clients in accordance with annual reporting requirements for HPS projects.

The Program Assistants under the direction of the Program Coordinators will always be responsible for maintaining the security and safety of the building during its hours of operations, which includes:
Conducting a perimeter check of the building at the beginning and end of each shift

Ensuring proper removal of litter, harm reduction supplies, abandoned shopping carts, etc.


Activities
The Program Coordinators will supervise the Program Assistants in the following areas understand the rights, duties, and expectations associated with their position(s)ensure the individuals involved have been adequately trained in and adhere to the facilities policies and procedures; resolving any issues in respect to the individuals' interactions with:

  • clients
- the physical infrastructure of the facility
- supervisors and coworkers
- the policies and procedures of the facility


Skills and Abilities
Minimum 2 years working with the homeless population

Understanding of mental health and complex health issues

Training in dealing with hostile interactions and de-escalating difficult situations

Able to work with Homeless population

Respect and knowledge in street culture, values, and beliefs

Outgoing, approachable, open communication with all staff

Writing skills for daily, weekly, monthly reporting

Must be able to maintain confidentiality

Able to de-escalate situations

Able to work as part of a team

Able to work on a swing shift


Qualifications
Criminal Record Check Vulnerable Sector WHMIS

Occupational First Aid Level 1


Hours:
On call casual position


Preference will be given to applicants of Aboriginal ancestry as per section 41 of the BC Human Rights Code (please self-identity in your cover letter).

$20.00-$23.00 per hour

  • Monday to Friday
  • On call

  • KAMLOOPS, BC: reliably commute or plan to relocate before starting work (required)

Education:


  • Secondary School (preferred)

Experience:


  • Customer service: 1 year (preferred)
