TMHC Inc.is accepting resumes for multiple positions within our Archaeology program for Archaeological Field Mapping Technicians for the 2024 Field Season.
Mapping Technicians will participate in a wide range of archaeological projects including field survey (test pitting, field walking), site testing, excavation, and documentation.
This position will start in spring 2024.Responsibilities
- Complete archaeological fieldwork following requirements of the 2011 Standards and Guidelines for Consultant Archaeologists issued by the Ministry of Citizenship and Multiculturalism (MCM)
- Support Field Directors and provide assistance where needed
- Work in conjunction with local Indigenous and Descendant community representatives
- Operating a high precision survey unit (e.g.
- Setting Stage 3 and 4 excavation grids and establishing site datums where relevant
- Conducting landscape surveys
- Recording Stage 2 site locations and landscape tie in points
- Mapping surface artifacts during Stage 2 or 3 controlled surface collections
- Liaise with the GIS Unit and mapping support staff
- Establish excavation grids
- Troubleshoot and maintain electronic survey equipment
Requirements:
- Actively participate in archaeological fieldwork including test pitting, pedestrian survey, unit excavation, feature excavation and documentation
- Perform physically demanding and repetitive tasks; (e.g., hand shovelling, screening soil, moving buckets of dirt) lifting 2040lbs
- Extensive outdoor work, requiring the ability to walk and stand on varied terrains for prolonged periods of time
- Take direction from Field Directors, Project Managers, and Principals of TMHC Inc.
- Assist in the completion of all relevant forms and data collection measures (electronic or hard copy Willingness to engage in diverse projects across Ontario. This role may require travel and overnight stays for offsite assignments
- Flexibility and openness to new experiences are essential
- Experience in archaeology and archaeological field methods and ability to identify artifacts in the field is preferred, but not required
- Full G Class Driver's licence in good standing is an asset but not required
- Obtaining and maintaining security clearances as required by TMHC clients
- Excellent work ethic and teamplayer attitude
- Strong attention to detail, with proven ability to follow specific instructions
Work Experience
- Diploma or degree (in progress or completed) in Anthropology or Archaeology is preferred but not required
- Previous fieldwork experience of any kind is an asset
Salary Range
- $21.75 per hour to $30.50 per hour, commensurate with experience and qualifications
