- Ensures the general upkeep of the facility such as cleaning floors, washrooms, windows, dusting, collects and disposes of garbage and recycling, vacuums
- Checks, cleans, moves, arranges and dusts furniture as required
- Ensures the general upkeep of external property such as mowing lawns, keeping sidewalks clear of snow and ice, cleaning main floor outside windows, picking up litter, sweeping sidewalks, gardening/watering and pruning shrubs, raking
- Restocks washroom supplies and distributes received material as required
- Spot washes accessible walls, strips and waxes floors and shampoos carpets as required
- Arranges chairs for worship/meetings and stores chairs after worship/meetings
- Open and close doors for rental groups and ensure the cleanliness of the building after events.
- Establishes and monitors preventative maintenance procedures for related equipment; recommends repairs and purchases as required
- Performs several minor repairs and duties in a variety of trade areas such as electrical, carpentry, plumbing and painting; reports safety concerns and major repair issues (e.g. furniture and fixtures)
- Checks doors and windows to ensure building and resident security; provides access to the facility and secures the facility as needed
- Performs other duties as assigned
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Criminal Record Check including Vulnerable Sector Check
- More than three months but less than one year of prior related experience, including life skills and general familiarity with cleaning and maintenance procedures

- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
- Strong interpersonal skills
- Ability to operate industrial cleaning equipment and tools, mopping/sweeping, bending/twisting/lifting, occasional ladder work and fine motor skills
- Ability to use cleaning equipment such as vacuum cleaners, floor buffers, and cleaning compounds
- Moderate to high attention when using motorized equipment, handling hazardous chemicals, and using nonmotorized/general cleaning equipment
- Knowledge of standard cleaning procedures
- Background in handling, mixing and safely using cleaning chemicals
- A strong sense of initiative and responsibility in working alone
- Problem solving and decision-making skills
- General knowledge of workplace safety practices, policies, and procedures (e.g., equipment safety, hazard communication, personal protective equipment use) to ensure performance of safe work practices.

Position Purpose Summary:
The Custodian maintains the cleanliness of the facility, property and or grounds in compliance with applicable standards. The incumbent makes minor repairs and provides access to the facility as required.
