Supply Educational Assistants / Long-term Occasional

On-call working up to 35 hours per week:

Rate of Pay:
$170.13 per day (including 4%vacation pay)

The Board is currently seeking energetic, compassionate, student-focused Supply Educational Assistants to join our dedicated and motivated team. This position provides support for students in our positive and inclusive learning environment.


As a Supply EA, you will have the ability to choose which days of the week you are available to work and which geographical locations you would like to work in.

This flexibility promotes a positive work/life balance.

Additionally, you will have the opportunity to contribute to an OMERS Pension and if interested, and you want to work on a regular basis there are always opportunities for long-term placements which could lead to full-time permanent employment with the DSBN.


Interested applicants must have:

  • Demonstrated experience working with students with special education needs of varying ages, preferably in a school setting;
  • Ability to work with classroom teachers in order to establish a positive classroom environment
  • Ability to support students in the areas of personal care, mobility, communication, and life skills;
  • A thorough understanding of positive behaviour supports, including Applied Behaviour Analysis strategies;
  • Proven ability to deal with classroom management and emergency situations and to take appropriate actions based on established Board policies and procedures;
  • Ability to communicate in a sensitive, courteous manner with children, parents, staff and others;
  • Proven ability to follow policies and procedures in an appropriate and timely manner;
  • Understanding and commitment to confidentiality;

Skills, Qualifications and Education Requirements:


  • Graduate of a College of Applied Arts & Technology in Educational Assistant
  • Special Needs Support (preferred), Autism Behavioural Sciences, Child and Youth Worker, or comparable postsecondary training deemed equivalent.
  • Experience in an Educational Assistant role in the classroom (in a variety of settings) is considered an asset.
  • Access to reliable transportation and willingness to work in multiple DSBN school locations throughout the Niagara region.
  • Ability to stand/walk for extended periods and move/carry equipment for program;
  • Must be able to physically assist children as required (e.g. lifting) may need to meet physical demands analysis;
  • Standard First Aid/CPR and Nonviolent Crisis Intervention certifications are preferred.
  • Provision of a satisfactory Police Clearance including a Vulnerable Sector Police Check from the last 6 months (or ability to obtain one) is a condition of employment.
