Project Overview
Mad Relic Press (www.madrelicpress) is an independent publisher specializing in fantasy, military science fiction, alternate history, and cosmic horror. We currently have 10+ published titles along with signed editions and a small amount of merchandise.

Our existing Squarespace website (www.madrelicpress) is functional but very basic and needs a professional design polish to elevate credibility, improve visual hierarchy, and strengthen our storefront presentation.

This is primarily a refinement and optimization project, not a full rebuild.

Primary Objectives
We are looking for an experienced Squarespace designer to:
Improve homepage visual hierarchy and overall flow
Strengthen typography, spacing, and layout consistency
Enhance book and product presentation (covers are key)
Create a clean, cinematic small-press aesthetic
Improve mobile responsiveness and usability
Maintain fast load speeds and good user experience
Preserve existing core structure where practical

The goal is to move the site from a basic indie look to a more professional small-publisher presence that inspires reader confidence and supports direct sales.

Design Direction

We are aiming for a look that is:
Dark, high-contrast, and cinematic
Professional and credible (not hobbyist or blog-like)
Focused on strong book cover presentation
Clean and modern in typography
Easy to navigate and purchase from
Appropriate for military sci-fi and cosmic horror audiences
Reference styles we like include clean genre publisher and author sites such as Aethon Books ), DJ Molles ), ) and similar professional indie presses.

Typography system refinement
Spacing and visual rhythm cleanup
Book/product grid improvements

Minor visual enhancements (contrast, depth, consistency)

We are not currently seeking:
a full platform migration
heavy custom development
a complete brand overhaul
extensive copywriting

Requirements

Have strong, proven Squarespace experience
Can provide live Squarespace sites you personally designed
Demonstrate strong typography and layout judgment
Have experience with ecommerce or product-focused sites
Understand mobile-first design principles
Communicate clearly and professionally
Experience with book publishers, authors, or genre brands is a plus but not required.
