Rock Ridge Dairy is Western Canada's largest goat milk processing facility situated in rural Ponoka Alberta.

We produce quality goat milk and Organic Jersey milk products and are now and we are seeking a mature and responsible individual for a position as a apprentice cheese maker, who will working towards becoming a team leader with time and experience.

Hands on training will be provided.

APPRENTICE CHEESE MAKER/


TEAM LEADER:
We are looking to fill 1 Position.


PLEASE NOTE:
This is NOT a farm related position.

This position will primarily focus on cheese making, bottling and operation of the HTST plant CIP systems.

However duties would be increased over time to include:


  • Cheese Making (Feta, Chevre and Cheddar Cheese)
  • Pasteurization, running the HTST and CIP
  • Bottling and packaging of milk for transport to the retail outlets.
  • Packaging of cheese

QC:

Laboratory analysis of milk for antibiotic detection, determination of milk quality, presence of coliforms or E coli., standard plate counts of raw milk and pasteurized product as well as shelf life studies.


  • Record Keeping
  • Machinery assembly and disassembly
  • Sanitation and Clean up
  • Order assembly
  • Loading and unloading delivery trucks. Forklift operations is required.
  • General upkeep and maintenance
  • HACCP
Working approximately 37-44 hours per week. Overtime after are paid out at 1.5 x after a 44 hour week based on a monthly averaging agreement. Monday

  • Friday. Saturday and Sundays are normally Off but Sat morning cheese packing may be needed periodically but rarely. Early morning shifts are also often required. (ie 5am6am start time )
Starting wages are dependent on previous work experience.

Typically wages for this position range from a starting wage of $22.00-$26.00 per hour for a person with some food processing or related educational experience.

Wages for those with no food processing experience start at $18.50 per hour and rise as quickly as the person learns the various tasks outlined and become a valuable member of the team.


Individuals must not mind physical labor, will need to be reasonably strong and physically fit for this job since cheese making can be heavy repetitive work.

They must be able to work in a fast paced environment, have great attention for detail, able to work independently and also happily in a team setting.

They must have good math and problem solving capabilities and be able to handle situations as they arise in a calm and collected manner.

Enjoyment cleaning and for orderly settings is a must. Mechanical abilities is a very good asset.

Vehicle and drivers license is required since we are in a rule setting and Lacombe and Ponoka Town sites are a 15 minute drive from our facility.

This job falls under Noc 946- Paid position with opportunities for advancement
