As part of the Strategy, Support and Integrated Initiatives Division, the Strategic Policy and Planning branch provides strategic and integrated policy and project services for the department of Justice on a wide range of programs and services under department legislation.


Role Responsibilities:


The Business Planning Analyst reports to the Manager, Business Planning & Performance Reporting in the Business Planning Branch of the Strategy Support and Integrated Initiatives Division.

As the Planning and Reporting Analyst, you will be supporting the unit in executing an integrated and aligned approach to planning and reporting within the framework of strategic plan priorities and business plan desired outcomes for the Ministry.

You will be supporting the coordination and development of strategic plans, business plans and Deputy Minister performance agreements.

This involves assisting with the development of planning and reporting processes based on best practices to ensure that the Executive Team's vision and priorities are articulated and embedded in planning documents.

You will support the coordination and development of enterprise risk management framework that is consistent with strategic government direction. Please note, this is NOT a "Financial Analyst" role.

Other key areas of responsibility include:

  • Supporting the coordination, development and implementation of planning and preparation processes to ensure a high degree of Ministry staff involvement and compliance with Government requirements for all planning products (strategic, business, operational plan, deputy performance agreements, etc.).
  • Supporting the development and maintenance of reporting documents and processes to inform and support decision making and priority setting exercises (strategic map action items, business plan key strategies, performance measures, annual report, etc.).
  • Participating and contributing to projects that support the mandate and goals of unit, branch and Ministry.
  • Supporting the coordination and development of Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) frameworks.
  • Supporting the implementation of the planning, delivery and monitoring framework to better assist the justice system in responding to a growing number of priorities.
  • Supporting policy coordination and development, best practices, and a coordinated approach to the department's policy, legislative and priority initiatives.
You will be expected to demonstrate initiative by staying informed of issues impacting Ministry programs and services. Creativity is required to present Ministry plans and priorities in a manner appropriate for various audiences.

You will have the ability to analyze and present information in an easy-to-understand manner within the context of government goals, client needs, fiscal responsibility, operational feasibility and stakeholder interests.

Your aptitude to manage projects with multiple deadlines, develop and maintain positive working relationships with representatives from Ministry divisions to gather information required to address stakeholder needs/requirements while maintaining the Ministry's strategic priorities will enable you to succeed in this role
