Position Summary
An exciting opportunity exists in our Metals Division in Fort Saskatchewan plant site for a Supervisor, Materials Handling.


Reporting to the Manager, Materials Management, the Supervisor, Metals Materials Handling will provide direct leadership to the operation crews in a safe and efficient manner and to coordinate and deliver on scheduled daily operations and maintenance work activities.


Accountabilities

  • Plan, organize, and direct Metals Materials Handling operations to safely and efficiently handle, off load, and store raw feed materials and process materials for Plant Production operations aligned with the overall Metals business strategy while supporting the area business plan on a 03 month time line.
  • Plan, organize, and direct Metals Materials Handling operations to safely and efficiently handle, package, load and ship saleable byproducts and ship nickel and cobalt finished product to customers aligned with the overall Metals business strategy while supporting the area business plan on a 03 month time line.
  • Assist to plan, organize, and direct the Metals Materials Handling operations area, supporting the area business plan on a 03 month time line.
  • Support Sherritt and Metals Production with supply and demand fertilizers and materials handling and preparation operations in a safe, efficient, and timely manner to ensure uninterrupted Production capabilities.
  • Deliver on operations and maintenance plans and targets on a continuous basis within the scope of the role. Monitor and respond to emerging or potential operating concerns or adverse process variability. Ensure prompt resolution or escalation.
  • Consistently communicate and monitor process/operation requirements and performance expectations, identifying needs and implementing appropriate intervention to achieve continuous improvements.
  • Participate in the development of and/or facilitate implementation of training and development education plans for the operations team, ensuring adherence to the operator progression system requirements and verifying operator competency at all times for assigned activities. Ensure sufficient overlap of qualified personnel for all operating positions to minimize requirements for overtime.
  • Ensure compliance with ABSA regulations relating to the operation of power and pressure equipment in the designated area.
  • Ensure compliance to relevant provisions of the Collective Bargaining Agreement. Actively participate in workplace investigations and resolutions relating to the grievance process.
  • Monitor and proactively respond to existing and potential environment, health, and safety incidents or community stakeholder concerns, ensuring incident response and management activities are carried out as required.
  • Organize, lead, and direct the operating team activities and operational status in response to emergency conditions or incidents.
  • Comply with all current regulatory, legal, and Sherritt policy requirements.
  • Establish and maintain a high level of employee engagement via effective communication, leadership field presence and guidance, and demonstrated behaviors for aligned culture.
  • Provide coaching and mentoring to operations crews, ensuring established performance management expectations are met and appropriate human resources policies are followed.
  • Ensure team members actively participate in the development of standard operating procedures, regulatory compliance and progression training, Process Safety Management (PSM) and equipment operations, and safe mobile equipment operations.
  • Implement operational excellence plans and initiatives to support continuous improvements in all areas of the operation.
  • Lead visual management meetings with operating crews in their area.
  • Embed best operating practices into the daytoday activities of the operating team. Review, revise and support development of operating procedures, ensuring continuous improvement, relevance, and accuracy of procedures and operating instructions.
  • Support the improvement of the process safety program, ensuring required program elements are known, understood and implemented.

Qualifications and Skills

  • 35 years' leadership experience in large process plant operations preferably in a unionized environment.
