SUMMARY OF DUTIES:


Guides are one of the key museum ambassadors with the public, doing first-hand interpretation of the museum's collections, exhibitions and programs.

They deliver public/private tours, public and educational programs, demonstrations and activities which highlight Canadian history and Canadian innovations (both at home and abroad) in aerospace engineering, general aviation, military aviation, and space exploration.

They animate and guide public programs and activities to various audiences and visitors, groups, dignitaries, and colleagues.

They also assist and are responsible for general care and monitoring of the public, the public spaces within the Museum, and of the collection housed within.


Must be available on weekdays, weekends and statutory holidays.

EDUCATION:

- minimum of one (1) year post-secondary education, - au moins un (1) an d'études postsecondaires dans in the fields of History of Sciences, Engineering, Education, History, Museum Studies, Leisure Studies, Early Childhood Education, or an acceptable combination of education, training and experience;
- certified in First Aid and CPR.


EXPERIENCE:

- two (2) years experience working in the customer service field;
- at least one (1) year experience in interpretation in museums, parks, and/or related fields in tourism;
- demonstrated experience working with young children and youth;
- basic dramatic/theatrical experience, or experience with Public Speaking is considered an asset.


KNOWLEDGE:

- considerable knowledge of Customer Service - standards and practices;
- general knowledge of touristic attraction in the National Capital Region and surrounding areas;
- general knowledge of children's and youth's stages of development.


COMPETENCIES:

- ability to interact, present and perform in front of an audience, and knowledge of oral presentation techniques;
- ability to initiate, stimulate and maintain visitor interaction is crucial;
- ability to work under pressure and to adapt and solve problems creatively;
- ability to effectively work both independently without continuous supervision, and as part of a team;
- ability to perform repetitive tasks, to stand and/or squat for long periods of time;
- problem solving skills and observation skills;
- capacity for tolerance, great patience and understanding;
- ability to communicate, verbally and in writing, in both official languages (French and English).

Les guides sont des ambassadeurs clés du musée auprès du public, offrant en première ligne des services d'interprétation des collections, expositions et programmes du musée.

Ils animent les visites publiques et privées, les programmes éducatifs, les démonstrations et les activités qui mettent en valeur, tant ici qu'à l'étranger, l'histoire du Canada et les innovations canadiennes dans les domaines de l'ingénierie aérospatiale, de l'aviation générale et militaire et de l'exploration spatiale.

Ils animent et guident les activités et programmes publics auprès d'auditoires variés :
visiteurs, groupes, dignitaires, collègues, etc.

Ils veillent également au maintien général et à la surveillance du public, des espaces publics dans le musée et de la collection qui y est exposée.
