DEPARTMENT:
Food Services


POSITION PURPOSE:


The Food Service Worker is a member of the Food Services Team and will be responsible for providing high quality meal and high level of customer service to the residents of the Glebe Centre.


QUALIFICATIONS:


  • Must be enrolled in or completed the Food Service Worker Program from an approved College.
  • Current safe food handling certificate, knowledge of quantity food production
  • Experience in healthcare, optimally Long Term Care operations
  • Welldeveloped English language skills, comprehension, oral and written

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:


  • Knowledge of WHMIS and MSDS, fall protection and chemical use instruction.
  • Flexibility and the ability to work well under pressure in a kitchen environment
  • A high degree of initiation and ability to work well with minimum supervision
  • Ability to safely lift 50 pounds
  • Ability to stand and walk for long periods of time
  • Demonstrated commitment to courteous, sincere, and sensitive customer service. Presents a positive and caring attitude in all interactions. Shows patience, tolerant, accepts diversity, and presents a positive image of themselves in all professional interactions
  • Ability to work in a culturally diverse environment

FUNCTIONS:


Ensures high quality Resident & Guest meals by:

  • Preparing and serving safe, nutritious and appealing meals
  • Ensuring residents receive proper diet as per care plan & special menus
  • Maintaining work area in a clean, orderly and sanitary condition
  • Maintaining inventory of work area
  • Setting up and clearing tables
  • Washing dishes, pots and pans
  • Putting away food orders
  • Following proper storage guidelines

Communicates with team members by:

  • Attending team inservices
  • Keeping Director, Supervisor and Dietitian updated with any concerns
  • Documenting food service actions; noting areas of concern
  • Maintain knowledge by attending educational and participating in inhouse inservices including Surge Learning and mandatory training.
  • Uphold and promote the organization's values and philosophy relating particularly to ethics, morality, and integrity as set out in The Glebe Centre's ethical and Professional Codes of Conduct.
  • Other job related duties as required

  • Confidentiality and Privacy of Residents and Clients is of utmost importance. All employees are expected to hold in confidence, information about residents, clients and members. There is also an expectation that information shared between team members or other staff, is confidential unless otherwise specified.
  • Prevention of Resident and Client Abuse is primary and there exists an obligation to report abuse or potential abuse. Resident and Client comfort and safety is a primary focus of the Glebe Centre.
  • Employees are expected to meet their obligations as far as scheduled hours and shifts are concerned. Regular attendance and being on time ensures resident and client safety and team functioning.
  • Showing respect is an essential requirement of all Glebe Centre employees. The Glebe Centre's Violence and Harassment Policy defines and elaborates harassment and violence in the workplace. Any violation will be taken seriously.

Part-time hours: 22.5 per week


Salary:
$22.00-$23.00 per hour


Day range:

  • Monday to Friday
  • Weekend availability

Shift:

  • 8 hour shift
  • Evening shift

Experience:
