Position Description:
Working in a fast-paced team based multi-disciplined environment, while collaborating with others and supporting the navy, coast guard, and commercial customer, Serco has a great opportunity for you

Serco supports multiple customers including government customers and shipyards in designing ship, craft and other floating structures.


You will be leading a team working for an executive or Program Manager designing ships, or ship systems and working closely with the customer and other Serco teams.


You will be responsible for managing project(s) and related task orders for customer(s) with a high level of technical expertise.

You will conduct cost management through continual cost control and review and will have budgetary responsibilities. You will provide expertise to customers to ensure resolution of issues. You will require advanced knowledge and understanding of work project(s) and functions. You will typically manage a team of up to 20.

You will typically report to an Executive or to a Program Manager and be expected to understand the whole project.


In this role, you will:


  • Responsible for (or for supporting the Program Manager) for the cost, schedule, and performance of the company on major ship design programs from inception through completion. Manages administrative staff and provides ongoing direction in the performance of the assigned program.
  • Develops and monitors program plan including time and cost estimates. Ensures project outputs are delivered on schedule and within funding.
  • Establishes milestones and monitors adherence to program plan and schedule, identifies program problems, and obtains solutions, such as allocation of resources or changing contractual specifications.
  • Prioritizes workload and recommends program management staffing levels and any adjustments in staffing.
  • Reviews reports and briefings prepared by program management staff for quality.
  • Leads discussions for project reviews. Prepares and delivers formal briefings.
  • Ensures that appropriate training is delivered to program management staff.
  • Establishes and maintains effective relationships with customer and other outside agencies.
  • Acts as customer contact for project activities (or secondary customer contact for program activities). Regularly meets with and updates the customer on project status. Leads and/or supports project review sessions with customer to discuss cost, schedule, and technical performance.
  • Supports preparation of proposals, business plans, proposal work statements and specifications, operating budgets, and financial terms/conditions of contract. Participates in negotiating contract and contract changes.
  • Complies with quality assurance and security procedures in the performance of duties.
  • Performs additional duties and responsibilities as assigned.
  • Train, guide and mentor more junior project staff.
  • Complies with all corporate policies and procedures, including quality assurance and security procedures, in the performance of duties.

Qualifications:

To be succesful in the role, you will have:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Naval Architecture or other related field with at least 5 years of work experience relevant to Project Management. A minimum of 3 years in a supervisory capacity. (_In some cases, educational requirements may be adjusted or waived for more than 10 years applicable work experience. _Work experience may be adjusted for highly specialized knowledge or uniquely applicable experience for positions involving new technology or labor market shortages as reflected by market survey data)
  • Comply with all corporate policies and procedures, including quality assurance and security procedures, in the performance of duties.
  • A demonstrated ability to lead and manage teams and projects

Additional desired experience and skills:

  • Possessing a Project Management Professional certification is considered an asset.
  • Possessing a Professional Engineer's designation is considered an asset.
  • Possessing or the ability to obtain Canadian Security Clearances (Reliability/Controlled Good or higher) maybe considered an asset or maybe required for the role.
