Description
We are a criminal law firm practicing both as Criminal Defence Lawyers and Criminal Prosecutors. We have an office in Airdrie and Calgary, Alberta.

We prosecute as Standing Agents for the Public Prosecution Service of Canada (PPSC) and have the contract for Medicine Hat and Lethbridge which we manage from the Calgary area.

We act as defence lawyers for clients throughout Alberta and across Canada.

In this role you would practice as a Criminal Lawyer. You would be an independent contractor.

As such, you would be responsible for supplying your own office space, work supplies, computer, vehicle and Law Society/ALIA dues.


We are looking for someone located in the Calgary area, with the ability to work remotely and attend court in Southern Alberta in person.

Compensation and work responsibilities would depend on experience level.

Key Responsibilities - Defence matters

  • Represent clients in docket court, at bail hearings, sentencings and trials;
  • Strategically review file to effectively communicate with clients, courts and crown prosecutors;
  • Conduct legal research.
Key Responsibilities - Federal matters

  • Represent the Federal Crown in docket court, at bail hearings, sentencings and trials;
  • Download and vet disclosure;
  • Conduct legal research, draft memos and prepare screening reports; and
  • Communicate with courts, law enforcement agencies, and defence counsel.

Requirements:


  • Called to the bar as a member of the Law Society of Alberta (this is NOT an articling student position);
  • 04 years postcall experience;
  • Juris Doctor law degree from accredited law school;
  • Ability to work independently and within a team of lawyers;
  • Strong written and oral advocacy skills;
  • A willingness to regularly appear in court;
  • Driver's licence and a reliable vehicle;
  • Computer and high speed internet which is capable of videoconferencing and downloading large amounts of disclosure; and
  • Willingness to travel throughout Southern Alberta, sometimes on short notice.

Job Types:
Full-time, Fixed term contract


Salary:
$70,000.00-$130,000.00 per year
