About the Department of Continuing Education:

The Faculty of Continuing Education and Extension at Mount Royal University has been providing relevant, practical and strategic personal and professional development programs and courses for 71 years.

Its current operation sees over 30,000 registrants annually in a variety of fields, including business, entrepreneurship, information technology, environment, corporate training, fine arts and health and community development.

The faculty is responsive to new and emerging industries.

For instance, in the fall of 2018, the Faculty introduced the Cannabis Education Program in partnership with the continuing and professional studies division of B.C.'s Kwantlen Polytechnic University (KPU).


The Faculty of Continuing Education and Extension includes the renowned Mount Royal Conservatory in the Taylor Centre for the Performing Arts.

Established in 1910, the Conservatory has been inspiring creativity and excellence in the performing arts for more than 100 years, making a vital contribution to the cultural fabric of Calgary, Alberta and Canada.

It offers a broad range of credit-free, personal development and general interest courses in all areas of music, speech arts and drama instruction for people of all ages and levels of development and serves over 5,000 students every year through direct instruction and welcomes tens of thousands more people to a wide array of public performances.


About the Role:


The program assistant (PA) supports the administration of various courses and programs within the Faculty of Continuing Education to enhance the student learning experience.

The PA works closely with an administrative programming team as well as instructors.

Primary duties include working extensively with the learning management system (LMS) to create and maintain course sites, communicating with instructors in course set up and training as needed, and using a variety of software to support student learning (LMS, communications and alternate course delivery platforms, student registration systems, databases, online exam proctoring, intern placement tracking, etc.).

A high level of collaboration and participation is required in Faculty activities and meetings as required. When appropriate, the PA works cross functionally throughout the Faculty to ensure continuity and consistency across programs and processes.

This position is a full-time role working 35 hours per week.


Responsibilities:


  • Have an indepth understanding of all aspects of the LMS and alternate course delivery platforms to ensure courses are prepared for delivery.

This includes, but is not limited to:
- creating new course sites
- maintaining master sites
- updating/refreshing course sites as needed/requested
- uploading and linking course content, including course outlines, assessments, course/program guides, etc.

  • Provides training to instructors and students on LMS/alternate platforms as needed
  • Works with MRU Academic Development Centre and CE instructional designer to troubleshoot LMS issues as needed
  • Attends LMS training, workshops, etc. as required
  • Ensures students, instructors, and other stakeholders have course access to LMS sites and alternate platforms
  • Supports students/instructors with the utilization of video meeting tools and provides training/access as needed
  • Understands how to use and provide support for CE approved online examination software, plagiarism detection tools, practicum software, etc. as required
  • Manages personal workload and calendar based on semester timelines and priorities
  • Creates a high volume of course outlines based on approved templates
  • Prepares and organizes course materials, assessments, and instructor packages, and distributes appropriately for all types of delivery modes
  • Manages experiential and instructional learning equipment and supplies including inventory, ordering, sourcing, repairing, liaising with vendors and MRU
