Summary/Objective:

The Education Specialist is involved in event planning, education content, delivery and education evaluation for the North Simcoe Muskoka Hospice Palliative Care Network.


Key Duties and Responsibilities:


  • To coordinate/facilitate Hospice Palliative Care education to meet the needs of health service providers in alignment with the Declaration of Partnership and Commitment to Action and the Provincial Hospice Palliative Care Strategy.
  • To work collaboratively with all health service providers and to plan and deliver palliative education
  • Work in partnership with Palliative Pain and Symptom Management Consultants (PPSMCs) in the development of further educational offerings.
  • Coordination and planning of the annual palliative education schedule inclusive of venue, facilitators, resources, equipment, registration, and public relations
  • Maintain, coordinate, and disseminate the annual education plan
  • Develop, plan, coordinate, and compile evaluative data on NSMHPCN educational offerings
  • Collate and incorporate evaluative feedback results of course offerings into future programming.
  • Operate within the allocated education budget
  • Reinstate and chair the NSMHPCN Conference Planning Committee
  • Co-Chair the Brenda Smith Leadership Award Committee

Education:


  • Coordinate educational and development opportunities for health service providers, staff and volunteers and volunteers to meet their individual needs and their educational development objectives
  • Plan the delivery of courses and educational workshops hosted by NSMHPCN
  • Editor of education materials facilitated and hosted by NSMHPCN
  • Point person for all things education inclusive of course access to workshops, conferences, elearning, library, and education portals.
  • Facilitation and coordination of the NSMHPCN monthly podcasts
  • Oversight of course evaluation and feedback processes ensuring all education has an opportunity for participant feedback
  • Development of innovative methods for educational delivery
  • Monthly "hot tips" content development
  • Coordination, planning, and facilitation of "lunch and learn"
  • Support staff in literature reviews in support of professional development
  • Edit monthly education newsletter, and calendar in collaboration with the communications team.
  • Responsible for managing E-Register online education registration platform
  • Collaborate on and support appropriate research studies where these impact on training and education of staff, volunteers, patients or informal caregivers
  • Coordination of and participation at Dinner Education sessions lead working group associated with planning/implementing sessions
  • General education responsibilities which include, but are not limited to: creating QR codes for education events and creating and analyzing survey monkey surveys

Dimensions:


  • The Education Specialist is a member of the Clinical Team and leads delegated components of the educational program working in coordination with other staff for additional educational offerings hosted by NSMHPCN.
  • The role includes working with interprofessional clinical and nonclinical service providers across North Simcoe Muskoka (NSM)to develop, promote, and disseminate quality palliative education

Preferred Education and Experience:


  • 35 years as a Registered Nurse or Registered Practical Nurse certification and experience in Hospice Palliative Care are recommended
  • Proven ability to be a leader/mentor to others
  • Competency in relationship building, communication, and team approach to all tasks
  • Knowledge of current trends in healthcare influencing hospice palliative care
  • Exceptional planning and organizational skills to coordinate and oversee numerous educational programs running concurrently
  • Demonstrated commitment to maintain strict confidentiality
  • Excellent interpersonal skills (reading, writing, listening) to effectively communicate
  • Excellent understanding of the use of E-Register online education registration platform, Microsoft Teams, Excel, PowerPoint, survey platforms, and virtual communication platforms such as Zoom, Brightspace

Supervisory Responsibility:
This position has no direct supervisory responsibilities.


Work Environment:
This job will include travel across all 5 subregions of NSM, with a home-based office. Standard proficiency in the use of office equipment such as a PC laptop, a photocopier, fax machines, and digital platforms is essential
