The Children & Youth Ministry Coordinator will ensure the successful provision of a discipleship and outreach ministry to the children and youth from Heritage Park Temple as well as the local community, toward the goal of integrated mission and to participate fully in the life of the Church as part of our worshipping congregation.

This is a part-time position at 20 hours per week.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:


Oversee all youth programs within the Corps:
Develops, implements, maintains, and evaluates programs/ministries relevant to the children and youth of the church (includes implementing discipleship curriculum, administration, communication, acquiring resources, and volunteer recruitment and training)
Praying with and for children, youth and families and leading them to faith in Jesus Christ as opportunity permits
Leads some programs and supports other leaders as needed
Provide spiritual care for children, youth and their families including effective follow-up of spiritual decisions made by children and youth and discipleship
Provides Leadership Development to youth and volunteers
May attend and/or chair committee meetings as relevant
Attends Sunday Worship Services and fully participates as part of the Church Congregation
Ability to speak publicly, giving updates to corps family and relevant, engaging devotions to children and youth during programs
Maintains connection with children, youth and their families outside of Church programs to aid in building trusting and supportive relationships
Supports The Salvation Army Divisional and Regional Youth events
Other duties as determined by the Heritage Park Temple Corps Officers


Community Services Outreach and Programming:

Develops, implements, maintains and evaluates outreach programs/ministries relevant to the children and youth of the community of St. James (includes communication to leaders, acquiring resources, volunteer requirement and cooperation with Community and Family Services Coordinator)

Assists Community and Family Services Coordinator in the Summer Kids Kamp Program helping with:
hiring staff, training, program evaluations, handling parental communication and concerns, filling in when help is needed)
May attend committee or community meetings
Connects with kids and their families outside of programming to aid in building trusting relationships and discovering root cause issues and needs
Provide referrals to other agencies as appropriate
Maintain complete, accurate, up to date documentation in case files


QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:


Education/Certifications:

College or University Level Studies
Clear and current Criminal Police Investigation Check (CPIC) and Child/Adult Abuse Registry Check
First Aid and CPR certificate or willingness to attain


Experience:

No less than 1 year of prior related experience working with children, youth and their families
Experience in developing, implementing, maintaining and adapting children and youth programming with a focus on spiritual formation and discipleship
Experience giving oversight and direction to volunteers and staff with an ability to communicate, motivate, train and empower volunteers


PREFERRED SKILLS/CAPABILITIES:

Able to work evenings and weekends when needed
Participate with The Salvation Army's training including, annual online Praesidium - Abuse Prevention Training
Strong problem-solving skills including the ability to exercise good judgement
Excellent time management skills including the ability to effectively handle competing priorities and emerging demands
Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively with children, families and co-workers
Ability to treat information in a confidential manner
Ability to work independently with mínimal supervision
